'bare metal'

It's been quite a while since I did 'real' refinishing.
Here, in the pestilential swamp, as soon as one gets down to bare metal, you're almost compelled to immediately prime and seal, or oxidation takes off and contaminates adhesion.
Hope Delaware's an improvement over North Texas.
Will you be using the epoxy primer system? I understand that it's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy out ahead of the old DuPont system I used.

Still deciding. I have all of the old fashioned equipment, but I'm not sure I'll do my own paint yet or not. Still lots to do...

Not much very photogenic in this part of the project. Making cardboard templates of the pieces I need to weld in place between the Firebird body and Prius v chassis to keep water out of the cabin.

I'm so happy to see progress made on this project! I gotta admit that I "changed channels" at half-time when the opponent's lead looked insurmountable, but it appears our team (Bill) is mounting a come-from-behind win.

However it has been a long, long game (to continue the football analogy) and in that time I have finished my own chassis swap project, and I built a workshop (albeit a lot smaller than yours, Bill), and I did an EV conversion to a classic motorcycle.

Now I'm looking at my next project: EV-converting a classic car. And one possibility I'm considering is using a Prius as my "chassis" and converting it to full EV by pulling the ICE motor, locking the input shaft to the gear box (that holds the two electric motors), adding a huge battery, and installing the VCU from the openinverter.org community.

So I'm definitely looking at this project as inspiration. Keep marching towards the end zone! (sorry for all the football talk but I just finished watching the Liberty Bowl and my team came back from an 18-point deficit in the 4th quarter to take it to triple overtime. That's what this thread feels like to me.)

yes, I got excited about using a Prius when I saw this guy putting the front sub-frame, engine, steering, etc. into the back of a Corvair. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cledu7mOo8M/

And he told me that the prius can be converted to EV easily. However I did a little reading and of course it's not "easy" and it requires using an open-source VCU that still has some driveability bugs to be worked out. And the Prius inverter needs a very high voltage to work best, something like 500v, but I don't recall the exact number right now.

The reason people use a Prius transmission and inverter in EV conversions is because the parts are dirt cheap and easy to work with. But there's still a fair amount of electrical engineering involved and so it's easier (but more expensive) to use a Leaf engine. Which is what I would probably do, but I'm sharing all this info about the Prius in case Bill want's to make this project take even longer
