I hope Ford builds lots of EV's. (No cylinders, you can use renewable energy, and much easier than pushing...)

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

There are tens of thousands of small high performance engines produced in America every year, if only one could get investors to fund getting them into suitable platforms, 70mpg could be common. My X-Car plan uses two 10 HP Mercury outboard powerheads, upgraded to 15 HP each. They are neat little engines, OHC, Pentroof combustion chambers, forged crank,electronic ignition,easily modified to variable cam timing, and light at about 40 lbs. They come in 2,3,4,v-4,v-6 configurations, from 5HP to 300HP.

EVERYBODY uses timing belts. The lightest, most efficient, parallel power transfer method available. Replace about every 100k miles, no lubrication, no problem.

New Aveo is basically the new Metro. The only problem for GM US is that they don't sell the smaller 1.2 or 1.4 engine models there, we get them here.
New Aveo is also based on the same platform as the Corsa which is the European "Metro", and has a NA 1.0, 3cyl 12v option.

Agreed, glad my 3cyl has a chain although it can be noisier.

Have to disagree on two counts - not everybody uses belts exclusively, some use chains.
And secondly there have been loads of problems with belts - GM revised their service schedule in Ecotec engines in the early 2000s from 100K miles to 40K when they started to fail inside the warranty period, VAG the same.
My car is brand new, (well 10 months old) has a chain cam, engine introduced in 2005.
