I have a parts car for my Ion, and if you count my Redline as a partial(not everything directly compatible) then I have one and a half... it’s nice to be able to take a fender and wiper gearbox off a parts car and fix my daily driver for pocket change... if I didn’t live in the middle of town, I’d buy up all of them that I could store and catalog...

My Insight was rear-ended about a decade ago. Likewise, damage was mostly cosmetic. Replaced the broken taillight assembly, and am still driving it. Figured the $5K I finally (after almost a year of fighting) got from the guy's insurance would do better in my bank account than an auto body shop :-)

I bought a parts car and I drove the Insight 80,000 miles as my daily driver before it once again became more of a parts car again with a shorted main harness

The only necessary repair done was a new 12 volt wire so it would run and drive

Sure that I never expected to find a gif informative!

On the parts car ... I have thought of it, but nope. No room for it. And my neighbors would call the city.

I'm currently driving my parts car!

I plan to keep my '98 Firefly indefinitely, so I figure it was worth having a doppelganger around.

When my friend and I made the ForkenSwift, we also had a parts car for that. I think we got both cars for under $300 total (one with utterly ruined floor/control arm mounts, the other repairable). Selling off parts was one of the reasons the total project cost was so low (conversion EV on the road for under $1k).

Coincidentally, my friend called me this morning to ask what I wanted to do with the ForkenSwift's original 3-cyl engine that's been sitting in his junk pile all these years. I told him I want to keep it. I'm not sure why. But it was running when we pulled it, so... parts engine!

Fortunately I have room to keep this junk in my garage (which has more square footage than my house).

I've bought two for stupidly low prices...pulled the parts out that I bought them for, and called to have it hauled away not 24 hours after buying 'em.

Yes, there were plenty more useful parts on 'em, but I didn't want them hanging around.

As it should.

I wouldn't have a parts car sitting around unless it was an especially rare car. Seems better to let it go to the junkyard so anyone can benefit from it (would also keep my wife happier).

I would love to take two junked cars and make a working one someday, though.

This is someone else's parts car: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/c...590026614.html

$950 for someone else's parts car, missing seats, parts of the cooling system, and other components.

Aw man... https://mohave.craigslist.org/cto/d/...594144419.html

1998 Honda Civic HX vtech runs needs 2 front tires ball joints needs dash or repair needs front end spoiler needs tlc would be great first car to fix up registered till 22
It comes with a Vtech phone?

Well, if the engine and transmission check out, I could have a D16y5 and hood for $800, but I would try to talk him down to $799.99.

There is a $900 EX with a bad head gasket, another EX with unknown problems for $1,200, a hideous HX with an EX engine and steel wheels for $1,500, a good and tired EX with 260,000 miles for $1,500.

Hey, here is a white LX for $1,300: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/c...576183412.html

This is weird: "Needs a gas regulator and new battery" 2004 Civic with 129,000 miles for $600. https://offerup.com/item/detail/483425132/

RepairPal says the regulator should be a couple hundred. $100 for a good battery?

I could not find those pictures with TinEye or Google Images.

1996 Civic with 150,000 miles for $500: https://offerup.com/item/detail/482813652/

2000 DX with 120(,000) miles for $150. There is only one picture of a dirty engine bay: https://offerup.com/item/detail/482810330/

Ah. There is a second ad that specifies "for parts."

1988 wagon with 15,000(?) miles for $5,000: https://offerup.com/item/detail/473051157/

I did find an HX for $400, but it did not have a title or steering wheel, and the ad was eleven months old.

Honda holds value very well, this is the reason I drive a Saturn. I have a nice car that cost less than $1000 to assemble and I have lots of spare parts to keep it running.
