Funny fact about the Janus car: the passenger you take along will be facing in the other direction and have a steering wheel to hold on to.

That's a very good number for a street car, those French really seem to appreciate aerodynamics for some reason.

Here is the proposed reincarnation - one of them anyway.

Quote:
The chassis of the A220 of 1969 is basically similar to that of the A210 prototype designed by Len Terry in 1964 which shows how slowly development moves at the Alpine factory, changes mainly being aimed at improving the weight distribution..................

Alpine have their own wind tunnel and although their glassfibre bodywork is seldom attractive to look at the cars do not run into the aerodynamic problems of some of their competitors despite a claimed top speed of over 190mph.

Alpine Renault 220

Quote:
THE Alpine is a small car of almost unbelievable performance. With Rena ult backing it can be regarded as one of the major contenders at Le Mans, and though it lacks the sheer size to attempt outright victory, it must be regarded as first favourite for the Indice, which gains equal money and almost as much publicity......................

With dimensions of 75.7 X 72 mm (1296 cc) the Renault-Gordini engine develops 125 bhp at 7000 rpm. It is coupled to a Porsche five~speed gearbox, though some cars have been built with the Hewland, and both boxes may be used at Le Mans..................

The greatest secret of the car's success is the aerodynamic bodywork by M. Hubert. This has a highly refined shape wi~h two smalll tail fins, and it allows the car to exceed 150 mph without directional instability or a tendency to lillt. The Alpine, as an all French effort, will be carrying the good wishes and fervent prayers of most of the spectators at Le Mans.

I'm posting a never built design from some folks that proved they sort of knew what they were doing.

Abarth Ascending

Quote:
The remarkable Cisitalia/Porsche Project 370, a drawing for a V8 in GT form. A Berlina was also designed. The V8 was to be a 2 liter DOHC with an alternative flat 8 on the boards. Dusio put the time and money into the Grand Prix car instead. Click to enlarge.

The template overlay was disappointing.

However if you notice in the plan view the front wheels are covered like the Porsche Type 64.

This design looks lower than the 64, but wider and of course a V8 in a Porsche was still many decades away as it turned out.

Abarth Ascending
Quote:
Lurani and Millanta both agreed that Cisitalia was the only Italian car company that might be able to realize a race car from the Porsche drawings. Plus, Dusio was extremely interested in the Grand Prix project. Dusio acted quickly, paying Porsche for the designs and rights to not only the 360 GP car but to a sports racer designated the 370. The money was used to get Porsche out of jail, and in Turin, the era of the “German” team at Cisitalia began on February 3rd, 1947. As part of the package deal with Porsche, Carlo Abarth and Rudy Hruska were hired on by Dusio; Abarth would be the sports director at Cisitalia while Hruska would be put in charge of the development of the Grand Prix car.

for the So-Cal Eco-tec 4. Here's an other car never built, the Porsche Type 114 that's closely related. It had a 72° V-8:
