Nice looking ride. Scanned the post and checked it all out. Looks like it's progressing smoothly. Know how it take a lot of time to accomplish. But, eventually it gets done.

Those MG's are some sweet little sports cars. Always wanted a '79 MGB or Triumph Spitfire or TR6. They are starting to show up more frequently now and lot's have engine malfunctions. Making for some sweet conversion material.
Problems to install may include, radiator, fan, belt interference, exhaust, floorpan / trans tunnel, shifter location, clutch set up, proper trans to diff angle (parellel but not concentric), and other unforseen difficulties. But, again, it'll get done with time and patience!

rear suspension update

I put in a smaller 26" tire that fits signficantly better, both shorter and narrower, and from the looks of the tread would think it has less rolling resistance (these are DOT ProTrack tires used in the front of drag cars.)







And almost finished with the rear suspension redo from the leaf springs into a 3-link setup. This has been a lot of work. Reduced the rearend weight and will improve the handling and MPG with the taller tires, but no simple feat.

I fabricated all the links and mounts.
The suspension mounts are using polyurathane leaf spring bushings that I modified to fit into the 1.5in SS tubing for the ends that was surplus at the metal store. The links where made from the square tubing I had in my shed,
the track bar was fabricated from aluminum round stock, and aluminum tubing I had. So not much cost, but a lot of time and energy (literally, my electric bill jumped about 3x last month!)








It has also gotten very cold now, the garage is barely holding on to 50-degrees these days, and working out in the cold moving around this rear end has strained my 50 year old back. So it looks like time to move the work indoors, and onto the software side of this project, which is building the user interface to the car using a touch screen.

Really sweet project. Please keep at it and posting pictures. I've always thought about doing a similar mod to my 1978 MG Midget, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of the original engine (that I rebuilt 8 years ago).

Jiminy crickets the rear end of your car just got more complicated than probably my entire swap. Very nice work - I'm not sure I'd even know how to build my own suspension; I'd just say forget it and find another host body. You could easily do things like this professionally if you don't already. Spent any time in Cuba?

You've got some impressive fab work so far, I am eager to see how this project turns out. I've got a similar project that I've been working on (1.0L engine in a AE86 Corolla) and I can certainly appreciate the amount of effort that goes into this sort of thing.

Well, no, I haven't as it's technically off-topic...

My goal with this car is not for mileage but instead to set a land speed record. There are a lot of ties between the two though and I would expect my car to get reasonably good mileage once it's done. I plan to keep it street legal as well.

Aha - so, you're doing it to compete in a displacement class?

I'd still post a thread about it if you're so inclined. Lots of cross-pollenation with ecomodding in a project like that.

EG: Aero-guru Phil Knox (aerohead) has provided tons of useful streamlining info to members here, and he loves to go play at Bonneville.

Unfortunately, streamlining is mostly forbidden in my class.
