Aren't testing results biased towards occupant survival only? Airbags everywhere kinda like expensive packaging. Local joke:SMART cars deform after airbag deployments due to all those airbags. They also have high crash results.

I wonder if the tesla batteries were inert.

I've heard the guy does a lot, maybe too much at times, but I don't think he literally does everything.

All the tests demonstrate,is what was observed within a controlled, laboratory environment, with this exact test rig,and test parameters.
It's repeatable,so it's scientific,although it may not represent the dynamics of a
'real world' event.
It IS,way out ahead of nothin'.

Your link clearly states they are using data from the frontal crash test.

I doubt Tesla does a single press release without Musk's approval.

The Model 3 won! Err.. became second! Oh, disqualified!

Yes, the Model 3 set the fastest time in its class in a Global Time Attack Super Lap at Buttonwillow Raceway.

https://electrek.co/2018/11/11/tesla...fied-electric/
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/11/12...eing-electric/

Except the driver who set the time wasn't officially listed.
But the owner also had a go and set the second best time in its class.

Only to be pulled from the podium (literally!) because the competition found out the Tesla uses an illegal fuel. You guess what. It wasn't approved...

Quote:
Cameron noted that the Model 3 was the first electric car in a Global Time Attack event and that the organizers were actually excited about having a Tesla in the event, but they clearly weren’t prepared to let it actually compete. Ironically, hybrids are allowed in the competition and they use both gasoline and electrons, so the organizers were clearly grasping at straws to find a reason to disqualify the electric car from the race.

The protesting party was the racer who earned second place, making the protest a completely biased objection that came after the car was accepted into the competition, after several rounds of competition, and after the award was actually made. The world of racing is being turned on its head as decades of petroleum-powered racing tech is being put to shame by this new breed of electric race cars.
Only goes to show how desperate the competition gets when faced with the inevitable.

When it's not a long distance endurance race, electric just isn't fair.

So when Musk shows up at LeMans with an S and an 18 wheeler full of batteries, I'm guessing that won't be fair either.

Finally a use for that battery-swap technology they demonstrated.

Wheels tires and battery in under 20 seconds?
