Here's an interesting new twist. Not sure I'd put too much stock in it, but it's interesting nonetheless:

I'd rather put my money in a Hino engine for the Tundra, possibly the J05E-TP, or the J05E-UG in a hybrid version.

I'm not one to be a fanboy, but I'd be excited to see Toyota and Cummins married in a single vehicle.

I read that as Tunland + Cummins... and I thought... Foton already uses Cummins... wait... oh... TUNDRA.

This is the Agrale Marruá, the ISF2.8-powered vehicle closest in size to the Titan, and proudly made in Rio Grande do Sul

BTW yesterday when I was walking my dog back from a park in a neighborhood close to mine I saw a Tunland with Paraguayan plates, and I might admit that I liked it. Mostly for the Cummins engine, of course

BTW Foton will open a truck factory in a city close to my hometown and, altough the Tunland was not even mentioned by the local press, we could probably expect it to come along the Foton Aumark cabovers, which lighter version also uses a version of the ISF2.8 (altough with lower ratings than the one used in the Tunland).

Here's some additional details on the engine:
Cummins Announces 5.0L V8 Diesel for North American On-Highway Markets

I think the version in this announcement may be slightly different than the Nissan pickup version, but I suspect they'll be fairly similar (just as the Ram pickup 6.7L ISB is slightly different than the non-pickup version).

I've already disliked it for featuring a DOHC valvetrain. The specific torque also doesn't impress me when I compare it to the Chinese-made ISF3.8 4-cylinder available in my country.

Folks here expect to be able to keep up with traffic. A 5L TD V8 fits that expectation.

The ISF3.8 wouldn't disappoint in that matter.

Agreed, however, unfortunately selling the general American public on the fact that a 4-cylinder is powerful enough is a tough sell.
