Here's some additional details on the engine:
Cummins Announces 5.0L V8 Diesel for North American On-Highway Markets
I think the version in this announcement may be slightly different than the Nissan pickup version, but I suspect they'll be fairly similar (just as the Ram pickup 6.7L ISB is slightly different than the non-pickup version).

I've already disliked it for featuring a DOHC valvetrain. The specific torque also doesn't impress me when I compare it to the Chinese-made ISF3.8 4-cylinder available in my country.

Folks here expect to be able to keep up with traffic. A 5L TD V8 fits that expectation.

Agreed, however, unfortunately selling the general American public on the fact that a 4-cylinder is powerful enough is a tough sell.
