I spent last night and a good part of today making a mirror delete for the Metro. The plate was 3d printed and it came out pretty good. I just finished it up. You can see the rest of the pics here:

People over at Geometroforum would buy both sides if they were available.

Woohoo, I had a new best commute in today. Smashed the last record by a decent amount too @ 87.6 mpg!
The tank is just a little under 60 mpg, and as you can see I need gas. My SG is setup a little pessimistic, so hopefully I'll break the 60 mpg barrier.

I met up with another Metro owner over the weekend. I got to drive her convertible and noticed that it had quite a bit more low rpm pep than mine did. So, I figured I'd start looking for possible reasons why. The first test I did was a compression test... sadly, this explains it.
cylinder #1
cylinder #2
cylinder #3
So, I have to figure out what I want to do now. I'll likely keep driving it in the mean time. I wouldn't mind rebuilding it, but I need another vehicle to drive in the mean time. Perhaps dropping a salvage yard engine in would be a good idea, but who knows about the compression on it. My engine only has 127k miles on it. I'm definitely going to have to do some rust work if I'm going to keep it... time to think.

On the upside, the Metro is still putting out good mileage. I filled up for the first time in about a month again. 566 miles on 9.4 gallons gives me 60.5 mpg. That is my best tank yet. I wonder what it could do with good compression!

Oof. Spec is 195, I think.
EDIT: manual says...
Quote:
Standard compression pressure is 1400 kPa (199 psi) at 250 RPM
Minimum allowable compression pressure is 1100 kPa (156.4 psi) at 250 RPM
---
Evaluate the compression tests:
- Piston rings faulty: if the cylinder compression is low on the first stroke and tends to increase on the following strokes (but does not reach the compression standard), the probable cause is rings. The addition of oil should improve the compression considerably.
- Valves faulty: if the cylinder compression is low in the first stroke and does not increase on following strokes, the probable cause is valves. The addition of oil does not significantly improve the compression pressure.

Does it burn oil?

That is the odd thing. It uses some oil, but not bad at all.
