So, last night I tried a different way home to avoid the interstate. I seem to get better mileage on 35-55 mph roads. The alternative route cuts out the interstate and seemed to have achieved a higher mpg than the interstate route.

The bad: It goes through some sketchy areas, there are 40ish traffic lights and most of them are timed wrong. I hit probably 20 of them. This route took me about 15 extra minutes than the interstate. At 10 pm, after being up from 5:30 am, I don't want to add 15 minutes to my drive. Instead of getting home at 10:30, I got home at 10:45.

It looks like I am going to stick with the interstate for now.

After your description of being "bullied", I was wondering if you had an alternate route. Too bad it doesn't work out.

Like most manufacturers, Honda turns on the AC when you move to defrost and you can't turn it off. Unlike most manufacturers, Honda allows you to change this behavior. With a simple procedure you can change it to manually toggle the AC:
DIY: Shutting of A/C during defrost
It will still turn on AC when you select Defrost, but just push the button and it will turn back off.
Wow, that is strange. Thanks for the tip!

I can hear my AC compressor coming on when I switch the defroster on, but the AC light on the button does not come on. When the compressor comes on, I can see the load % jump on my Torque app.

I just avoid using defrost...

Nope. The AC compressor comes on when I turn the defroster on. The light stays off, but I can hear the compressor engage and the load % increases.
