2011 Mustang V6 300hp / 31 mpg hwy

EPA 19C / 31H
I bet one of us could get whole tanks of 32 or better in a six-speed while still enjoying some spirited driving. After seeing the commercial last night, I've been having dark thoughts. May get my Mustang out on Friday. I want.....

2011 Ford Mustang V6 rated 31 mpg highway, most efficient 300+ HP car ever — Autoblog

Youtube video:

Ford is doing some great things with their cars, even the Mustang. I'm excited to see how high the V8 version rates. So smart to beat the camaro on power and MPG, and flash the numbers, especially 31 mpg, eight times during the commercial while you hear its motor revving and see it driving...
My '95 GT got 23-ish on my most conservative tanks.

Be strong

They are driving around the city saying 31 mpg (without properly qualifying it), that is pretty dishonest, not "smart". Under those conditions it should be saying 19mpg. And if you do a lot of those powerslides it should be flashing 5mpg in huge red letters!

The camaro is at 29 mpg hwy, and it has 304 horsepower. I wouldn't say that they beat the camaro, but both have beaten the v8. The great thing is the camaro 6 handles considerably better than the 8, so it begs to wonder why would anyone buy the v8?

It was built by Chevrolet...

When I got married in 1986, a good friend of mine had just bought the new corvette.
He drove from Dallas to San Antonio with his wife to come to my wedding.
He's telling me how he got 26mpg driving like a madman down hwy 35.
he had me come uot and look at the car and the display........I was impressed!!

He and I had been racing 1979 Mazda RX7s in Showroom Stock SCCA SoloII.
Needless to say, that Vet V8 was a stepup from the Rotary motor!! The Rotary had a 4bbl carb that opened pretty quick (I wear a size 13......) I think the best mileage I ever got was 18mpg!!!!!!

The Vet is a classic example of the use of lightweight material, overdrive gears and aerodynamics.

They have been doing this for years. Started in the 70s.
The truth today with giant plenums and a hopeless balance of 6 cylinders at a wrong angle untl boxer'd.. man o man. They must think we are all stupid.

convert it to realtime draft and see how fast it dies with real mileage...it'll do 31 alright, for 60k miles tops...and a carburator you can take with you when it dies..

One of the road tests I found showed the infamous rear axle hops the v6 always dishes out...amazing marketing, I am glad you tube exists and regular people with thier cameras.

"shoulda had a v8" is a saying I recall...the difference is so minimal, in consumption, the balance alone is worth the v8.

well, they do cite it as 19 city, and I bet it's more like 0.5 mpg when doing real aggressive driving.
I would love any of the cars with the ecoboost turbo engines. I really hope they appear in the 2012 focus. My wife wants a new car and she's looking at VW TDIs and we may have two cars to shop if Ford offers a fun to drive and fuel - misering turbo car.

Oh, and I washed the Mustang off for the first time in a year and drove it for the first time in weeks today. Man it was fun. Glad I have the escort so I can afford to drive the 'stang on occasion and not swear at the gas pump weekly when I fill up.

Sounds like mustang hate to me, I have a new 2011 base mustang V-6 with the manual 6 speed and I am above 25 MPG around town average. I don't get heavy footed very much, but do coast down to stops and such. I've just passed 900 miles driven and when it was new I took it on a 65 mph cruise on the highwat and got a tad past 33MPG. Not to shabby, can't wait for vacation next May to put it cross country. I will keep the average for the whole trip and post it up.

Don't just look at HP # , look at TQ and what rpm, that's better judge for performance . The ecoboost have nice TQ # (350 @ 1500-5250 rpm ) .
On Camaro vs Mustang , the mustang is few 100lbs (300lb) lighter AFAIK .
