I'm lucky the oil pan can be pulled without pulling the engine. I pulled it several years ago to replace the oil pan gasket. I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to doing any work on it, since lately it seems like when it's not too cold to work on it it's pouring down rain and since I just moved a few months ago I've no longer got a garage to work in. I've got someone working on building one now, but the weather is also slowing down progress on it.

Finally hit 515K. A couple weeks ago I pulled the oil pan off and found the pick up screen for the oil pump was clogged. I cleaned it, put the oil pan back on and filled it with fresh oil and filter and now the car has better oil pressure than it's had in years. The oil pressure is about 80 psi on a cold start, about 25 psi on a warm engine at idle and about 60 psi on a warm engine at 55 mph so apparently the bearings are still in pretty good condition for 515K miles. I guess I can stand having to pull the oil pan every 1/2 million miles to clean out the pick up screen. I was a bit worried about my baby thinking it's useful life might be about over, but everything worked out good and the only cost's involved was a can of brake cleaner and a day spent removing the oil pan, cleaning everything good and reassembling it. The oil pan removal wouldn't have been bad if I hadn't have had to remove the starter to get to some of the bolts and remove the catalytic converter so I could drop the exhaust to get the pan out.

man your sick :-) My baby is still stuck at a bit under 497,000 miles (88 Cherokee) it might be a while before I hit 500k since I Just can't justify the cost of the fuel to put serious miles on my baby.

My mouse gets all the miles lately. I might actually hit 500k in the metro (about 4.5 years from now at current rate) before I hit 500k in the jeep and its only (jeep) 3k from 500k :-)

I do have a drum of old E10 I could probable filter and force phase seperation and run in the jeep but that leaves me 100 gallons short of enough to break 500k :-)

I just don't want to put $540 in fuel into it over the next 4 weeks when I can do the same thing in the metro for $216

Grrrr so close but so far :-)

keep that critter alive man!! keep it alive!

Jeez... I do about 60 a day in the Golf, on the hardest days... About 90 rarely... Average 250-300/wk? Takes 2+ weeks to full the tank lol.

He's got 225k, and I'm sure that, barring the unforseen, 500k just won't be a problem.

I average 115-120 a day but only 4 days a week (sometimes 3) plus personal miles which last few months I keep as close to zero as I can as at these prices even the mouse is expensive to drive for no good reason :-)

Awesome man, I just recently bought a 96 F-150 with 220k miles and I'm shooting for 300k haha. That would be amazing if I could join you over half a million miles. Congrats!

I'm lucky my car with over 515K miles gets the best mileage of all my cars in local driving which gives me good reason to drive it daily. My '97 Escort wagon will do better on the highway if I keep the speed at about 55-60 mph.

Don't think I will ever catch you I am driving less and less and rather ride my Motorcycle than add to the truck. I finally cracked the 207,000mile mark a couple weeks ago towing a trailer fully loaded going to a swap meet for car parts. I hope to do a few more mods that will help the fuel economy so I don't feel so guilty driving it.

This thread is an inspiration to proper maintenance and shows that getting a new car every 3 years is not necessary. Keep that Ford going.

I drive much less now than I did several years ago and even less now that I've moved to KY and my wife only works about 5 miles from home. Most days all the driving it gets is taking her to work and picking her up. Today was a little bit out of the ordinary, my mom needed to go to the eye Dr. and she doesn't drive so I took her. I think it will get a total of about 150 miles today.
