Nice to read your thread from start to finish sounds like you have alot of sentimental feelings for your old work horse. Like you My 24,000 mile a year commute ended some 6 years agoI have 204,000 on the stock drivetrain in my 95 Tahoe and I try and maintain it when I can. The best thing about a car/truck like this is that you believe it can go forever and it just does. I have no probs dropping a 8,000 lbs. load in the trailer and pulling it away. Same attitude you have driving that 1,000 mile drive.

Same here I had cars from different manufacturers and ford have been more reliable than other ones from my experience so I will only have fords.

Man I wish my current ford was reliable like that :-)

in the past our ford vans were bullet proof. my 92 Clubwagon is a money pit. but its SOO nice and SOOOO comfortable :-) hehe

I guess they all can't be great all the time. but I DO tend to prefer fords from our family experience with them.

there are some years in there where they went "turd" but they are making a huge comeback now. about time :-)

I love driving a vehicle and not being scared when 200k closes in, then goes on by. Our Maxima passed 200k a while back, and I didn't even know it! My minivan is at 199,880 miles today, and I still consider it a nice riding vehicle, and would drive it anywhere after attending to some neglected maintenance.

Congratulations on one vehicle passing the 200K mark and also on the one nearing that point. I just recently moved from NC to KY and drove the '88 Escort (513K miles) on the 500 mile journey without as much as a hiccup. Although when I left I had very little doubt that it would make the trip, but was also relieved when we reached our destination.

514,000 Yes, it's still running. Since I moved from NC-KY the miles have really slowed down. Instead of driving 50+ miles a day now I'm only driving about 20 miles per day. Good gas mileage isn't the only way to save fuel.

Got a problem!!!, so I'm not driving it right now. A few weeks ago I got in it to go somewhere and when I started it up I only had about 20 psi of oil pressure on a cold engine so it's been sitting for the past few weeks until the weather warms up enough to get out and try to figure out what the problem is. Hopefully it's something simple like the tube going to the gauge just being stopped up or a bad gauge, but until I can check it out I'm not taking any chances on ruining the engine. The oil pressure dropped all at once during extremely cold weather so I'm thinking it may be the oil pressure was so high from cold oil that the pressure relief valve opened and stuck open. The first things on my list to check are putting a new oil filter on in case it's plugged or damaged inside and checking the oil pressure line for restrictions. If neither of these is the problem I'm going to have to remove the oil pan and check the relief valve and screen in the oil pump to make sure it's not plugged with something that may have loosened up in the engine and stopping the flow of oil. If it's none of these things I'll probably put a new oil pump on it, I figure there's a good chance it may just be worn out (the oil pump not the car) with 514K miles on it. If anyone has any other suggestions on things to check please either list them in this thread or send me a PM.

i think you're on the right path for checking it out. If you are using a mechanical oil pressure gauge, there might be some blockage or kinks in the line.

Kudos to you for finding the problem while it was a small concern (low oil reading) before it became a big problem (seized motor).

most big car failures happen because people overlook the little things.

My dad taught me a long time ago to look into small problems before they become big ones. I think that's probably the reason I've been able to keep this car on the road all these miles and hopefully many more. Even though my dad is gone now, he lived long enough to see me get over 500K miles out of this car, without him teaching me about cars and how to care for them when I was young it would have probably lasted like the average car on the road.

yup had the pickup fall off the oil pump once saw the pressure drop and ever since hat day I always tack welded on the oil pickup if it wasn't already done. pulling a motor to drop the pan is not fun for something like that

hope it works out for ya and is something simple..
