Update on mileage:
I added 5 gallons of Petro diesel about 2 weeks ago for the cold weather, I'm approaching 800 miles and still have a way to go before low fuel light (but like I said, I added 5 gallons) Next tank or 2 will be commercial fuel.

I really like the idea of having two final drive ratios. Each final drive ratio could ideally be paired with all of the forward gears. It's common on big trucks. This makes a lot more sense than the "ECO mode" that pushes back on the gas pedal when you try to accelerate quickly.

I don't know of any currently-produced cars that have this feature.

Hi/Low Ratios are common on "proper" 4x4s here, Land Rovers and even Range Rovers. Mitsubishi also pushed the idea here with the Cordia

There's a test here.
