I sure do wish.
This is a busy month for me with work, and for extra time loss I added swine flu (not so bad btw), intestinal flu, a broken toe (can you tell I whine a lot?),and a makerbot(ftw!). So I am progressing slowly.
However I "should" be finnished with all of the sourcing + preparation at this point, so next free weekend (this weekend is jazzfest + lemons, next weekend I have to be in seaside (wish I had a 6th for a 800 mile rod trip!), so hopefully weekend after that.

Too bad there wouldn't be a cheaper way of just regearing an existing autotragic or 5sp with an all around taller final gearset.

Lol, that works but has its own set of consequences.

In fact to make the Miles ZX40 speedo accurate we plan on changing from 155x65 13's to 155x80's

There are actually several options.

1) taller 5th gear (easy install, just remove side cover)Bora Parts About $300

2) Taller final drive (requires disassembly of transmission, often done when upgrading differential). About $600

3) Get a 5 speed hacked in to a 6 speed About $2000 for the conversion.

4) Buy a 6 speed swap About $2000 used ($4000 new) and sell 5 speed.

I would have done option #1 if a) I didn't tow regularly and b) I didn't use 5th all the time in town.

You should buy my 5 speed :-)
all that is needed for the swap that I will not include is the clutch pedal+ master cylinder.

So Do I! Almost every VW TDI that I go check out is an Auto! YUCK! They are only getting more common, after all, how could we talk on a cell phone if we have to shift.

Real men use a clutch, & I don't mean the variety of purse either!

Dave
