1. Finally put my Civic together.
2. Find some abandoned downhill stretch of highway between two gas stations.
3. Drive between them 35 MPH at 03, but speed up each time someone gets behind me just to interfere with science.
4. Retry as necessary.
5. Claim my picture.

I will definitely try to join this 'small select club'
A 70 MPG trip will not be so difficult with the three cilinder diesel, but the real goal is a 70 MPG tank. It means that I have to drive 800 miles at 70 MPG ??

... Perhaps this summer …

Alright! A diesel joins the club! Summer in my half of the planet ends about Sept 21... lots of time to mod and get that tank. I missed it by less than a quarter of one MPG last year, IIRC. I had less than ideal tires and a failing battery to drag me down. Will try again this year, and I am gonna need more development of my read decklid spoiler, too. That will be fun. Testing coming!

Dig it! Come join the SRA club! Find that lonely stretch of road and report the whole episode in your inimitable way, hey.

I haven't read the whole thread and know I'm not going to have a 70MPG tank without a lot more mods but, I'm hoping for a 55MPG tank in the Versa this summer. Thus far my best tank is 51.167 MPG. Current mods are 50 PSI in the tires and an aftermarket throttle controller set to economy mode. My last tank was 50.638 MPG. I know I can beat that in warmer weather.

Right now you are #10 on the % over EPA category. If you raise your tank mpg how am I supposed to get into the top 10 % over?

Right now I'm at #18.

Ok, maybe not a 70 mpg tank, but a 70 mpg "Single Run Average"? Single run is defined anyway you like and in exchange you get a sticker picture, the prestige of which is at a self-evident level.

What if we add a tank like in the Centurion?

Country Store east of Taylor is 29 miles away, not too busy, and is uphill from town. The question its: How late are the pumps open?

The nearest gas station is on this side of the main intersection, eleven miles away, on the right side, but after a left turn at a traffic light.

Is eleven miles far enough for anything?

I hadn't checked lately to see where I stood on percentage above EPA but, I will toot my own horn on this one.

1. 1998 Honda Civic DX Coupe 59.47
2. 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage top spec 58.72
3. 2017 Honda Civic Lx 50.13
4. 2015 Mitsubishi Space Star Invite 48.2
5. 2016 Nissan Versa SV Sedan 47.6
6. 2005 honda civic lx 47.59
7. 2009 Honda Fit Sport 44.4
8. 2015 Ford Focus Ecoboost 1.0 43.59
9. 1990 Honda Civic DX 41.7
10. 2012 Hyundai i30 Elite 40.93

Maybe with a few more tanks like my last one I can move to #4 soon.
I have a '94 Escort that I currently don't have licensed but as I remember if I'd keep the speed down to about 50MPH on the open road I got much better mileage than if I ran 55MPH. I know I had a few tanks that exceeded 40MPG in it. You might try 50MPH in your Mercury when conditions allow to see if that will help you any.

Well, 11 is good enough to set up THE bad Spinal Tap joke:
