bad luck! how far does your airdam extend from the bottom of the bumper in this case? and how high off the ground? i cant help but think in this cars case with the bumper almost 'scooping' the air towards the bottom a smooth front belly pan would be more beneficial?

even with a front bellypan some things will be in the open still.

chevy had an airdam on this car stock look at post #1 i think i added about 4" for 3"-4" of clearance and i don't think it can hurt to block the air from going under.

both will be best IMHO

We had one of those for a couple of years. Ours was a '95 6cyl auto. Bought it from my mom once she was too old to drive. Only had 115K when we sold it. It was a beast. Very heavy and not conducive to hypermiling. My oldest daughter used it to get to high school and back so it didn't get driven far enough to warm up much when she used it. You are doing way better mileage wise (too early to tell though with only 2 entries). We could never get it over about 25mpg even with long highway use when I would drive it to work.
Ba careful with short fills when calculating MPG. Lots of room for error here. Lots of full tanks gives better data.
I'm interested to see where this takes you. You are doing an amazing job so far.

edit BTW: Did you ever get the thermostat replaced? It is really a pain to get to in this car. Even my mechanic didn't want to do it as expressed by the labor quote for what should be simple in most vehicles.

its a decent car and easy to work on thermostat was in the lower rad hose and simple to replace installed a 195*F one.

this is a 2.2 slow and heavy

I like it. its a challenge and ill never break 50mpg but for the price I paid ($0) and the low miles I drive its perfect. I see cars and trucks daily with the 2.2

yes I need to quit with the short fills but I like just putting the 20 my co worker gave me in it to drive on not spending a dime.

ill start only full tanks after I get it back on the road tomorrow.
