Bean counting

Purchased 8/20/14
Miles driven 1917 (that will not stay at that high an average)

Annual depreciation
Fiesta $1000.00 Sentra $0

Insurance
$80.90 less per year

Taxes
$160.00 less per year

Tags and registration=no difference

That is $1240.90 less in yearly cost of ownership.

Considering the additional cost of fuel@10k miles per year at about $250, that leaves right at $1000.00 per year in reduced total cost of ownership.
Money in my pocket, tax free.

New tires installed tomorrow morning at 6 AM. About $925 total spent on the Sentra, and it should not need anything else any time soon.

Today I found that my bank had made a mistake (corrected by them) that added $300 to my cash balance.

mech

LOL, that's where the fun begins. Today I took my parents and my mothers only living sister to lunch in the Sentra. They all complimented me on how well it rode. Now that everyone is (begrudgingly) accepting the fact that I am going to drive this $300 car for the forseeable future, I can work on some mods. With winter approaching, it's time for a warm air intake and a grille block. Hopefully that will keep the MPG close to the present 37.7 average through this winter. I'm not sure about aero at this point, maybe a front air dam but I don't think I'm going to do any mods on the exterior of the body, but that might change.

The oil is a little dark, probably picking up some deposits with the warmer engine due to the thermostat after close to 1800 miles since it was changed, but the level is exactly the same at over 177 k on the odometer. I actually have not been using all of my techniques, but that will change after tomorrows tire install and a short fill of the fuel tank.

Thanks for the interest. I paid $400 for a 59 Austin Healey bug eyed Sprite when I was 17 in the summer of 1968. Figuring inflation in 1968 money the Sentra cost me $43. I think, as long as something big does not fall apart, it's the best deal I have ever made on a car and it suits me perfectly.

Thanks a ton.

As far as I'm concerned unless these tires fall apart I'm tickled. The car coasts noticibly longer to the same speed. Noise is almost nonexistant compared to the tires on the car (ancient). I have no problem with the handling and they even handle some nasty railroad crossings without problems. The car actually shifts into overdrive about 2 MPH slower than the other tires.

I would recommend them and if they hold up to 40k, the car will have 217k miles, and I would buy another set now. They may not work for you if you drive really agressively but for me that is not an issue.

50 front
45 rear

I have a set of Xtrac II's on the Impala, over 30,000 miles and good enough for another winter. I've gone thru 2-3 set of them. Only had a couple go bad due to lack of rotation or balance, they were the first ones I mounted myself and didn't balance, I now use balance beads and rotate more often and haven't had any problems with them. For the price they are hard to beat.

Goodyear Viva's are right there at the same price or close I've swapped between the 2 on several cars.

I like the tires, suit my driving style fine.

It looks like the Ranger will be sold tomorrow. Another $400 a year saved, as well as more cash in the bank. Harbour Freight has trailers for $250, or I could just borrow my brothers, but it holds 10k pounds and the truck really sucks gas. He uses it for roofing when he does a job. We used it to haul stone when I laminated it on my foundation 10 years ago and saved $18k. No immeditae decision needed.

I'm not looking to buy anymore bikes since the GZ 250 at $650 and 75-80 MPG is about as good as it gets.

Sell the 89 GS500E and I would have enough cash on hand to buy a used Nissa Leaf. Tempting to consider that, or a lease, but I need to keep my focus on the trike project and all of this will mean;

Done better
Done faster

I will still spend the time to sort out the details so I don't regret any step in the progress.

Good stuff Old Mechanic. I'm interested in what you think of the Leaf. I test drove one a few years back. My overall opnion was it was really quiet. Other than that, it was a nice car.
