I'll start another thread on the Leaf. I already drove on a while back. The boss of the dealership and I have been discussing my patent for a while and he loves the idea.

This would easily net me over $10-11K, which could be used for increasing my cash reserves or finishing the trike, even possibly purchasing another vehicle in the future... I like to be in the position to jump on a deal when one becomes available and this would put me in that position.
Better to have your money work for you, than to work for your money. I'm constantly astonished by people living paycheck to paycheck that make twice my salary, and live half as lavishly.

Having money set aside for a rainy day or an investment opportunity is very wise.

274 mile road trip to nags head nc, 41.5 MPG (on brand new tires). I need to calibrate the odometer tomorrow, using a known 19.8 mile route. I did not really use any hypermiling techniques other than very occasional coasting in neutral. The Sentra ran flawlessly. Maybe it was the 4 leaf clover I had sitting on the console. Got it from a gent at a community yard sale Saturday before we left. It was sitting in the back of a book he bought that was published in 1926.

Yes, definitely the clover!

Nothing to do with a steady foot and meticulous maintenance. Nothing what so ever.

All the maintenance in the world can't stop every potentail breakdown. The 4 leaf clover is insurance, so is the extra couple of bucks with state farm for towing. This 6 month premium is $124. My garage has 21 vehicles recorded, kept the Fiesta for 2.5 years, probably a record for me.

Maybe I'll wear the tires off the Sentra, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. 2600 miles, almost time for an oil change. I already have the Mobil 1 (wally world $22.66 for 5 quarts). The cruise control is a little whacky, maybe I can get lucky and resolder the pins on the printed circuit board and get it to work the way it's supposed to work.

Upper grille block in place, left over pipe insulation from the Fiesta, so no additional cost.

It' amazes me how long it took for the little nibs to wear off the tires. Fronts held out for 500 miles, rears still hanging in there, at least most of them.

Not a drop of any fluid on the garage floor.

Mech

2850 miles since purchased.

I had some 10w-30 mobil 1, so I dropped the oil and left the filter. It should be good down to below freezing. I'll change to 5w-30 next time. Hood sticker says both are good, but 5w preferred for colder temps. I have nothing else left to put the 10w in so it's basically a free oil change.

Next one will be a 15k mile filter and mobil 1 5w-30.

Cleaned the distributor cap and rotor tonight, significant buildup of white oxidation on the poles in the cap and the surface of the rotor.

Finally got the headlight adjustments just about perfect.

The dash lights flickered off last night, probably either the brightness potentiometer is dirty (work it a bunch of times) or there is a weak ground connection in the instrument cluster circuit board.

Fighting the urge to buy another car. Saw a 1997 BMW Z3 on CL for $3950.
I need to stop looking at CL .

Nothing wrong with Craigslist, just be specific on what you want and not impulsive. Sit down and draw out a project and a budget, make it realistic and financially responsible if your do decide to bail on it for something new. It took me four months to find my civic and just by chance one popped up down the street for $1200. The best part about it is searching and finding parts for it on Craigslist as well or sometimes eBay. Still trying to find a factory radio and factory intake for $20 or less.

To me the struggle to find my personal vehicle that met all my conditions gave me the greatest satisfaction out of any vehicle I've owned (I still have my eyes peeled for a non molested civic vx)

You're kinda bouncing around though, even with a Nissan leaf buying a new vehicle is the worst financial decision you can make. The only exception to that is the automotive illiterate, my father refuses to learn how to do anything on a car or learn about them, on a long trip overnight if his alternator fails or battery dies he is literally screwed and out the fee for a tow truck and whatever a random shop decides to charge him

In the mean time enjoy the Nissan. As with nearly all early 90's Japanese cars they were all driven to the ground and hard to find in any sort of reasonable condition.

Trailer hitch installed today, the hitch was free. Brother number 3 and I modified the mounts to fit the sentra. It was a old u-haul hitch mounted on a Jeep. We welded the hitch to the factory tie down brackets on the sentra, with about 1/16 inch clearance between the reciever and the bottom of the rear bumper cover, tucked in right behind the spare tire well, where it should have no effect on airflow.

I plan on picking up the trailer tomorrow from Harbor Freight tomorrow. They are on sale for $299, 4X8 with 1175 pound capacity and 12 inch wheels.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow after I paint the hitch.

3650 miles in 2 months. The bike (GZ250) has moved once in two months. I used the trailer yesterday to carry some junk to the dump, and to fix my neighbors friends generator which had sat for two years without running, fresh fuel and blow out the carb bowl and it started right up. Never took it off the trailer.
