A 600 mile range EV is dumb when there's already 600 mile range ICE vehicles. There's 3 people in the world that would actually pay money for the thing, which isn't a big enough market to justify such a vehicle.
21000 people so far... I don't really understand why you hate a 600 mile EV but love a 600 mile gas car. Isn't this whole forum about reducing gas use? Why are you even here?

There is no perfect car.

As far as batteries go, if you have a smaller battery that barely fills your needs you will be cycling it a lot more which degrades it faster. If you do some 1,000 miles per month and only charge your battery twice in that month it should last a lot longer.

A "300 mile ev" will turn into a 150 mile EV real quick running the heat or in strong winds in the winter while driving on the highway.

I've been there done that. I had a Leaf too as you probably remember. With zero wind and zero snow on the road and not running the heater I still made it only 30 miles with a battery that had recently lost it's first capacity bar. It was entirely the cold that did it. I had done up to 120 miles on a single charge in the summer, so you could even look at it as 1/4 the range.

When it's about +10F my range gets cut about in half compared to summer. But that's running the diesel fired heater so no heating penalty.

Been there done that also.

300 miles at 80°F turns into 280 miles at 10°F on snow tires. Modern EVs with good insulation and a heat pump aren't affected by winter as much as a gen 1 leaf. Snow tires are the biggest hit due to the extra drag.

My Leaf had a heat pump. But at temperuatures down to -40°F it doesn't use it. Not that I'm expecting a miracle, but this is why I want a lot of range, so the winter range isn't too little. Either that, or I need a cheap beater EV that's good for around town only.

I don't want to spend $40,000 or even $10,000 or even $5,000 on a car that I can only use around town when I can pick up a beater ICEV that would work fine for that same purpose for under $1,000.

Same situation here - I ran the numbers on keeping my subaru for trips and getting a Fiat 500E for commuting and found it was cheaper to just buy a new long-range EV that could do all of it.
