He's not wrong. I love all the gadgets but the base msrp on most vehicles is very high now.
ie: back-up cameras, bluetooth, big screens, parking sensors, collision radar system, adaptive automatic headlights, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, electric seat adjustment, rain sensing wipers etc...
Seems like most base models include pretty much all of these options these days.
If you want a super base model black model 3 with short range and self-driving capability that is $46,000. *sticker shock*
On the bright side though the Toyota Corolla Hybrid comes standard with pretty much all of it and can be partnered with a Comma AI unit for some pretty good self driving.

Don't forget, some of those are federally mandated, like the backup camera.
I want an EV with no gadgets, manual locks, manual seat adjustment, roll-up windows, basic/no sound system, and no nannies (especially traction control, which I had never experienced until I bought the Prius--and which I hate). But in order to get that, I'd have to build it myself.

Arcimoto FUV. Bluetooth speakers and a smart phone cradle*. No locks or windows because no full doors. (half-doors require less legal compliance)
They have autonomous aspirations, but also a concept called Minimum Viable Product. I told them I'm a minimum viable customer.
*or in my case a jail-broken iPod Touch.

4 wheeled electric Aptera. 300 mpge at 70 mph.
.
Impossible due to federal safety mandates to make driving "fool" proof. So then if we want something close, we are stuck with three wheels to skirt the law and make it a "motorcycle". Such as the Electro Mechanica Solo which is useless to me in the winter due to snow in the center track of every highway.

Man I thought Prius was luxurious when I got it compared to my previous cars haha.
In regards to the recreational vehicles I tend to prefer an enclosed cab with storage space. I hardly ride my motorcycle as is.

If your referring to the FUV, I see it as an urban rather than recreational (or neighborhood) vehicle. it's falls into the void between cars and motorcycles.
I want one to get off my bicycle.

Didn't like the vid as it contained no facts and no new ideas, plus she's just plainly wrong about autonomous vehicles being safer as there is no data to support that claim.
I've avoided collisions where someone moved into my lane twice in the last 2 years by driving extremely close to the median barrier. That requires the decision to leave my lane, which is something I doubt autonomous systems do yet.
Tesla hits parked trucks and tries to split lanes by driving through the dividing barrier.
We're a long way from autonomous vehicles... like 8 years minimum, and probably more like 15. We'll get some limited routes and examples of the tech sooner, but as far as being able to purchase a vehicle that can travel 99% of the roads in the US unassisted... 15 years.

Twelve passenger shuttle buses running at 'neighborhood vehicle' speeds.
