Average MPH is simple. The distance travelled from engine-start to engine-stop, cumulative, between re-fills. All else is cherry-picking data (and essentially meaningless as it is removed from this context).

Agreed, however, the only thing I would clarify is that technically one should use ECM/vehicle "on time" instead of engine on time. This is usually pretty much the same thing--unless one does engine off coasting. I just computed my average speed using engine on time and came up with 102.3 mph

In the purest theoretical sense, lower speed is pretty much always better because aero drag is reduced.
That being said, often low average speed is indicative of lots of idle which, of course, is bad (assuming one leaves the engine on).
Also, if one is unfortunate enough to have an automatic transmission, low speed can mean lots of time without the torque converter locked up.
Also, it's worth noting that 50% 80 mph + 50% 0 mph is much different in FE than 100% 40 mph--even though average speed is the same.

So also everybody sees that eco modding perfect speed is not determined by driver car road condition or weather alone it is all combined and if you build plan is a car for 77mph interstate trip, it is not the same for a lean burn 58mph country road car.
Im just saying what works for me may not work 4 u and vice versa.

I mitigate that by minimizing the amount of time that the key is on, but the engine is off. My UltraGauge appears to just measure the trip time based on key-on time, not necessarily engine-on time, when it updates the trip time I use in my average speed calculations. I know that the trip computer in my truck does the same.

I love EOC. It has gained a LOT of miles for me. My UG stays on a little while when I EOC, but shortly turns off- while the SCii lasts only a few moments.

That's odd- my UG does the opposite. It shuts off a couple seconds after I key off (usually after the car's instruments have recovered and are already back on), then powers back up in response to the key on. It's never shut off during an EOC, aven after 2-3 minutes.

I use a switch on my fuel pump, not the actual key- I know the UG can be a monster at times.

my avg speed hit an all time low of 29mph with rush hour city driving but my mileage improved to 28 mpg. pretty good for an epa 20 mpg rated 4wd brick. slower speeds and low rpm pulses (900-1700rpm) rock. i think with a bit more practice and low resistance tires i can hit 30mpg city. right now my car engine brakes too much on dfco.
