Kind of like how direct payments from the government to individuals magically stopped being socialism, It seems anti vaxxers only spout their wisdom when the hospitals aren't crowded.

Reuters: Could the new coronavirus weaken 'anti-vaxxers'?

Quote:
In Italy, which has been hit badly by COVID-19, the anti-vax movement has “virtually disappeared” in the discussion on the coronavirus, according to virologist Dr Roberto Burioni.

The Cannonball falls again! 26 hours, 38 minutes.
Quote:
All we know about this new set of scofflaws is that there were three, maybe four of them, and that they were driving a white 2019 Audi A8 sedan with a pair of red plastic marine fuel tanks ratchet-strapped into its trunk. They started at the Red Ball Garage in New York City at 11:15 pm on April 4, and ended less than 27 hours later at the Portofino Hotel & Marina in Redondo Beach, California, the traditional start and end points of a Cannonball attempt...

I read about that last night and was trying to explain it to my wife. Turns out she's never heard of it, and didn't quite get it.

Because of the timing, this record is going to stand a long time. Lots of folks are against it because of the pandemic, but as Ethan Tufts put it...

Quote:
I find it hilarious that former Cannonball run record holders are calling this pandemic run “grossly irresponsible” when the whole ****ing idea is grossly irresponsible.

No [potential] COVD-19 victims were harmed in the staging of that event. Brock Yates would be proud.

The Cannonball Baker event conceived by Yates as a whimsical gesture of defiance of the regimen of contemporary traffic laws was run without accident or injury, but the law did take its toll. Four of the eight teams received a total of 12 speeding tickets along the route.

How many days since a school shooting?

I have been trying for a month to get a hold of some students that I used to see every week. On Friday I did a Zoom session with a five year-old who kept running away and I needed to wait for the mother to chase him down. I also worked with a girl that seemed completely incapable of focusing.

That is much less of a problem in-person, but I am saving four hours of driving for five clients, although the two on a reservation canceled half of the time. Also, behavior issues aren't my problem anymore.

However, the school supervisor wants to talk to me way more, and she gets upset when I do not drop what I am doing to talk to her [and still accomplish every little thing that comes to her mind].

They have canceled until further notice and so has a family in-town, but I only see him once a quarter, so at least I do not need to ask every week if we are [finally] having speech and frequently ask if we can do a make-up.

I have filled up the Accord 85 times in three years and eight months, so pretty consistently every two weeks, but I have gone twenty-three days since my last fill-up and I believe that I am just below half.

Safeway has gone down 22¢ in that time. I guess that isn't impressive, but the cheapest gas is $2.159 in-town, $1.879 half an hour away, and $1.499 an hour away. If I felt like going for a road trip I would use 2.07 gallons getting gas, which would cost $3.11 from that station.

I would potentially save $7.60.

How many of us would spend an hour and a half to save $7.60?

Dad used to drive 50,000 miles a year and filled up a gas can each time that he stopped for gas so that he didn't need to do so as frequently, but he grew tired of the smell. He left behind several containers of various sizes, I could probably bring back months' worth of gas.

I am pretty sure that if I tried to do that gas would keep getting cheaper.

The tires are wearing low, but dry rot may be a bigger concern.

I think that I finally caught up with work, so I can start working on my cars again. I may finally fix them!

There were a bunch of articles and news segments saying to not use hand sanitizer, just wash your hands!

Liquid soap became difficult to find.

I put a spray nozzle on a bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol.

I just hope that helps.

Human Body Used For Cryptocurrency Mining Featured
Microsoft’s Strange ‘Body Activity Data’ Cryptocurrency Patent

By cloverchronicle on April 17, 2020

Last June, Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLC filed an international patent for an odd design that uses humans to mine cryptocurrency via their physical activities, as opposed to using a computer-related mining device....

The design includes a brief abstract (description) which explains how it will function:
Human body activity associated with a task provided to a user may be used in a mining process of a cryptocurrency system. A server may provide a task to a device of a user which is communicatively coupled to the server. A sensor communicatively coupled to or comprised in the device of the user may sense body activity of the user. Body activity data may be generated based on the sensed body activity of the user. The cryptocurrency system communicatively coupled to the device of the user may verify if the body activity data satisfies one or more conditions set by the cryptocurrency system, and award cryptocurrency to the user whose body activity data is verified.
The ‘publication date’ of the patent shows up as March 26, 2020 and, perhaps more interestingly, the ‘publication number’ is WO/2020/060606:

Definitely school-adjacent. Was anyone involved with the shootings involved with the schools or that was just where people decided to shoot each other?

I do not know how many home-schooled people I have met. People sure are fond of it, but usually after I talk to them a bit I ask "You were home schooled, right? Well, have fun coloring!" instead of continuing the conversation.
