I put a piece of cloth over a prybar and stuck that under the hatch, with a small weight hanging off it.

Then I cycled power to the hatch, it' unlatched for a moment, and the prybar lifted it open.

After that, I set an old work glove over the latch, so that it could accidently lock closed again.

And yes, I did pull the big orange safety disconnect. Here it is, see?

I have a little Walgreens store brand 91% Isopropyl alcohol in the medicine cabinet. Is that the same stuff?

I know you have hopes that everything under the rear deck is safe from the water damage, but the fact is that it just ain't so. The car didn't splash through a deep puddle; it was immersed in water, probably for many many hours. Electrical stuff might be hermetically sealed but the mechanical stuff is not. That means you have water, silt, and what-have-you in the differential, transmission (if there is one!), CV joints, bearings, brakes (parking/drum in particular), and on and on. The good news is that those bits should respond well to a less rigorous cleaning than the electrical bits.

Ben, I am really sorry. I try to wait to read the updates here, but I read everything on your car. I really hoped that it would work out well to you. Good luck making what you can of the rest.
