Hinge the windshield at the top, attach hood to it firmly and swing both together.

The bottom one. Late 40s Buick and 50s IH hoods had a latch and two hinges on each side. Open from either side, or flip both latches and two people can lift it off.

*If I did it,the rear portion would have to include a new structural portion to support the new hinges,if I kept with a conventional layout.
*With the half-hood open, there wouldn't be enough access to the engine,so the portion incorporating the new windshield would have to swing up and away to allow the access, which would have to carry the forward hood with it.
*I might as well just create a 1-piece front clip which detaches and rolls away from the truck on 4-castored pogos like the U-2 uses.
*I like freebeard's 4-bar linkage idea, but in Katrina-like winds (which I've experienced on trips),I'd never trust it without an enclosed shop.

The forward bars could be short and combined into an X, with the long rear bars acting as tension straps.
It would wind up vertical with the front edge down at bumper level.

Saab Aero-X Concept Car
I paid for the windshields for the new truck last week. The tooling was $12,500 and the windshields were a grand a piece. But we'll have a real DOT approved windshield and a spare.
It would have been $18,000, but I worked out a promotional deal with them.
And coincidentally, my laser scanning vendor was here today to scan all of the windshield and window perimeter flanges of the new truck cab. We couldn't take a chance that the real truck that we are building deviated from the CAD model by even a little. As everyone knows, you can only bend laminated windshield glass once. So we'll submit the laser scan data to our windshield vendor once it is converted to a CAD file, and the windshield will match the truck dead-nuts perfect. At least, that's the plan....

A thousand dollars, you say? What are the width at the lower rear corners and the depth?
