A secondary wheel arch, or mounting points to the fender lip would seem like a more professional solution. I'm thinking L shaped brackets along the front with snap lock fittings using a cupboard hinge at the top

This is temporary. CAD = cardboard-aided design. I had skirts before that were smaller. I plan to use the same or similar mounting strategy, see this post earlier in this thread. That mounting method has held without incident for a whole year at least.

Dang missed that page. But that was the mounting idea I was thinking of, maybe I did see it and that's where I got the idea from lol

California98Civic I'm watching with interest as I'm gathering the parts necessary to build my own wheel skirts. I might just wait a bit and see what you do!

Car sure seemed quieter and coastier tonight with the skirts on it. Running average up to 66+ mpg by the time I got home. Before re-installing the airdam and today the new skirt design, i was struggling to keep to 60, pushing pretty hard I got to 61. Today/tonight 66 and not really trying all that terribly hard, I thought.
That's not science. Just the butt-dyno and maybe one calibrated with some confirmation bias!

wheel skirts
James,
How do you feel your donkey-crx wheel skirt experiment compares with your previous version?
Did you attach a bar underneath for support of the cardboard, or is that not necessary?
For the gutter side skirts, what did you use to attach them to the moldings?

Right now the rear wheel skirts are just attached with duct tape, for testing. They are held off the tires because while the upper portion is flush with the body, inside the lip of the wheel well, the lower portion is outside the body, which acts as a "support" of sorts for the lower end. Ultimately, I'll want some sort of bar. I'll figure that out soon, but not this week. Work is too busy again.
The side skirts are attached to the plastic runners at maybe six points. I drilled in a slightly zigzag pattern, to prevent wiggle at speed or from vibrations. I can't remember what sorts of screws and bolts I used at the moment. It was a little hodge-podge, remnants and such. Btw, one side of the gutters I cut off (on the part of the gutters that are on the inside, under the car).

Any more updates/development on this idea?
Loved the design. Was looking forward to seeing the finish piece.
Awesome thread

I took them off, unhappy with the fit's clearance of the tires. I have cut a new template of cardboard that looks just like this but is intended to rest on the outside of the wheel well only. As soon as I install, hopefully tomorrow, I'll be able to post photos. Thanks for asking.

Very interested in the development of your wheel skirts. Now I understand why the long triangle in front: it fills in the bodywork.
I was looking at the shape of the bodywork and trying to figure out how I would fill that yesterday as I finished strapping on all my goodies again after getting the car back from the shop.

i think the triangle on the leading edge is to also keep the "angle of attack" as shallow as possible for the oncoming air to be as smooth as possible.
I did the same thing for the wheel skirt on my del sol.
