Usually what you see as bad paint is just faded and/or flaking clear coat.

I agree with that. This was about heat gain more than paint. If my paint had also been worse than it was, I would still have done this. Missing from my photos were the three small rust spots I cleaned-up before clear coat. I don't want a "new" look. I like my weird performance art piece of a car. But I don't want outright rot of the body panels either.

center console remake
Ultra Gauge placement and other items. Like everything on this car that is not an important mechanical item, I use as many free used parts and found objects for materials as possible. See key for image.
1. voltage meter seen through small concave piece of a found sunglasses lens.
2. The actual voltage meter facing down and acting as green console light at night.
3. Bluetooth (dark round thing).
4. Green lighted switch for radio/bluetooth.
5. Injector kill switch (immediately left of #4).
6. Shifter knob made from found skateboard/rollerskate wheel.
7. Used iPhone 5s as bluetooth music player (mounted with found/salvage hardware.
8. Mounting plate is redwood siding I took off house 2 years ago, shaped, painted black.
Almost done.
Gauge currently showing 70.2 MPG.

I am unsure how many people would consider it to be cost-effective. People would just tell me to buy a new car.
"A white one?"
"Anything but that!"
I spent about the same amount for my fan fold insulation. It is just enough to (hopefully) put 1/4" on the roof and all four walls.
I did two panels and compared them with the adjacent uninsulated roof sections.
On a 90° day it was worth 3°.
I wish that I could save 8-9° for $55!

Thanks. It is kinda like an art project. It takes a lot of time to work found materials into workable things. I learn about materials and processes, I think, sometimes...

Still that ain't nothing! This is not a cost effective mod at all. I just don't want an AC (weight & parasitic losses), so I am willing to try some odd stuff.
Hey, I am still hunting for someone(s) who will take and send me pictures of the headcodes stamped on the front of their 6th Gen Civic HX... you willing to help out a guy? My thanks if you can (and if you can't, it's cool).

Where exactly is this head code?
Are you asking for someone willing or are you asking for someone able?

... It is a way of marking which engine a particular head was built for. Here are mine for my DX and they should be similarly placed on your HX ... the pic shows P2F - HA - 3 ... gotta read it carefully, though The digits are easily confused, I think. Where I marked the round date stamps might not be the only spot... maybe further to the right too, closer to the timing belt cover.

Thanks for the second image. I guess that I did not need to figure it out from the first one.
I cannot take a picture now! It is dark!
Whew! I got out of that one!
