The hardest thing I ever learned was: after 5 minutes of not fixing the problem, put it down, walk away for a while. Guaranteed you failed the same step many times.

I spent countless hours over several days trying to fish a cat6 cable through 2 studs in an exterior wall. It's embarrassing how difficult I made a task that should have been straightforward, and because of the assumed ease of the task, I couldn't let it go. I kept trying "1 more thing"... eventually breaking 2 of my fiberglass fish rods.

I finally got it last night by taping a hard drive magnet to a string and inserting that into the top hole, then pushing a fiberglass rod with hard drive magnet guided by an inspection camera from the bottom.

No idea what the point of that story was except to vent, and perhaps to point out that sometimes things aren't worth the effort, but sometimes they are. Knowing when to give up and when to persevere is the tricky part.

I had to rekey a lock last night and couldn't get the doorknob back together. After half an hour pressing as hard as I could and wondering where my rubber mallet was, I randomly turned the key and snick the knob slid into its place and everything was as it should be. I was not amused.

When I rebuilt the motor in my 1950 Studebaker I was laying on the ground trying to start a bolt with just my fingertips that was pointed away from my feet.

45 minutes trying to start the thread. Then I tried turning it 'backward' and it went right in.

That is the "You'll always be wrong no matter what you say!" version of righty-tighty.

I'm way faster than you. After doing the right front pads and rotor in my cold, cramped garage, I move around to the left front. It only takes a couple minutes before I break my first bolt.

Jeez you must be extremely strong, mine are all 5/8 dia grade 9 so maybe 1500 lb/ft to break them?

I wish. Or maybe I could put my breaker bar on ebay and retire. But my last few brake jobs have been done at work because they do it right the first time. I hate paying for a job I know I can do on my own, but having it done right the first time has a bit of value to me.

I had the Superbeetle done along with the suspension, but I doubled the cost of the parts with cryogenic tempering. Should extend the life 2-3x.

I just had the shoes checked along with compression. Down to 70lb on #1. So now I will derust/replace the gas tank and work on the engine tin for the 1776 stroker.
