I just saw the "new" clean diesel emissions requirement today... I'm actually kind of laughing that it was never done before...

It's a "particulate filter" (another catalytic convertor, but with a different catalyst) that has pressure sensors on each side of it... when pressure drops too low, it enters "after burner" mode, and clears out the crap... as ash. Ash is much better than diesel particulate for the environment, thus justifying intermittent 1100*+ exhaust temps.

I love our new "Green" america...

I had a 240Z myself. i'd like to see that, too. It was pretty slick as it was, so not much to do to it. Even I got 26 mpg at the time and drove like a typical 20-something male. Cover these headlight scoops, air dam, and maybe some grill blocking is all I can think of.

A front air dam was the best thing I did to that car - it was light in the nose at speed without one, but rock solid with it. I lowered it about an inch in the front and that helped too.

DPF is a huge fuel-waster on diesels. The filter induces back pressure which reduces efficiency. Then it uses diesel fuel to burn up the collected graphite. All that diesel and graphite gets converted to CO2 foir no appreciable gain.

Wait til these new diesels with urea injection start getting ammonia slip.

...not at 70 mph, but I was able to get my '72 1600cc Pinto from 24 mpg up to a consistent 36 mpg at 55 mph.
