Civic VX 53 mpg last tank

Well I didn't expect to be in this mpg territory until warmer weather. Since I bought it, I averaged low 40s without trying to get good mpg. Then I really changed my driving style which basically was slowing down on the freeway. Didn't hardly ever go over 55 and coasted in neutral whenever possible. The last two tanks have been above 50, with the last being 53 mpg, and I still had a half gallon left in the tank before I filled up. We've had temps well below freezing into the single digits during the last tank and this car still pulled this off.

I know tradition has it to be at least a 3 tank average, but so far things are looking pretty good. Heres details on it from the old fs thread:

That bodes well for warm weather to come.

Are you going to start a fuel log here?

Glad the car is working out well for you, Rob!

I do miss the mileage that thing got, but needed to get something with four doors.

My Subaru now gets about half of your mileage, but after this summer I'm hoping to bring that up a bit closer to 30mpg for me.

Yes I'm keeping track of fuel consumption on paper so I will transfer it over here eventually and Team Honda eventually.

Tom, glad your new Subaru is working out for you. I have to say that this is hands down the most enjoyment in a daily driver I've had in quite a while. Cornering is totally different (in a good way) in this compared to anything else I've ever had.

I must say that it feels kind of weird getting passed (sometimes at considerable freeway speeds) by cars like Prius' or even other same year Civics.

The 5th Generation (92-95) hatchback had some great suspension out of the box, and with the sway bars on there it is a fun little corner carver! At one point in my ownership of it, I had an autocross suspension on it. It was great for autocross, horrible for daily driving, lol. Glad you're liking the car, it's a fun one.

Some Prius drivers that aren't fuel efficiently aware drive a Prius like a regular car and just get regular mileage from them, it's sad because those Priuses (Prii?) have some good potential.

Seems like people around you are more forgiving if they just pass you without getting their panties in a wad and taking it out on you.

Most all of my commute is on two or three lane freeways and I always stay in the right (slow traffic) lane. Minimum speed is typically 45 where I drive but I just can't go that slow (on purpose anyway) on a freeway. Only thing I've had so far is a lady in a big SUV got mad at me after she tailgated me (I was in far right lane of course) for over a mile when she easily could have passed me in that distance on the freeway.
