At 5:35 he discusses the four times greater potential in the mid-Atlantic, and shows anchored vertical hulls with wind turbines atop them.

Thanks I would have mentioned that, but I couldn't remember the name.

FLIP is the proof it can work because the vertical configuration is impervious to high waves, even though this one was towed into position vertically.

Now all they need is a seamount.

The part I found intriguing on that episode of "Fully Charged" was Easy Jet and electric planes!

Who's going to "Observing the Frontier" this year?
It's only about a 4hr drive for me.

JockoT — For electric airplanes try :

Sport racer rather than airliner. I'd want mine on a zero-length gravity powered catapult, like the Wright Bros. or the counter-rotating power plant in an old Republic SeaBee.

oil pan 4 — Not I. But I know I'm not the only one that follows S0 closely.

The Caribean Islands are all still a mess after the recent big storms. Too bad there is no money to just rebuild with futuristic home designs and a less diesel reliant grid. Instead of just trying to put it back like it was. How much more prosperous would Puerto Rico be with just 1 nuclear generation plant. If we had a small modular design that could be factory built and certified and shipped in for final assembly. GenIV designs run on depleted uranium or high level waste. MSR doesn't even need expensive hardened containment. Check out the SSR.

That's the joke, there aren't any AFAIK. I looked around and found these:

Quote:
With regards to energy alternatives, there is no consensus among local experts and activists as to what would work. FRA does not oppose wind energy, just as long as such projects are not placed on farm land...."We oppose wind energy projects. Wind is an intermittent, unpredictable energy source," activist José Francisco Sáez-Cintrón told IPS. "We support other options like solar, hydroelectric, tidal power and ocean thermal energy*."
https://www.theguardian.com/environm...o-clean-energy

Quote:
I hope they do install many more solar capabilities–but I also hope they don’t stop with only solar power. True resiliency lies in diversity. It seems possible that wind power (maybe not during hurricanes) and perhaps tidal power generation (after all, Puerto Rico is surrounded by ocean) also might be renewable contributions to Puerto Rico’s energy resources.
https://jansgephardt.com/index.php/2...n-puerto-rico/

That second article has some interesting pictures:

An artist’s rendering of a tidal fence to harvest tidal energy, based on a design by Energy BC, of British Columbia, Canada.

No geodesic dome, but it has a circular plan and clear-span roof so it's pretty close. The radial truss floors are interesting.

* That would be OTEC
