I don't really know what Gamergate is. That said, the government can't keep people from saying or thinking terrible things. My thoughts on this are that online social platforms are privately owned, and the owners have the right to set the rules for use and create a privacy policy that people agree to. If you don't agree to it, then don't use it.
Why are people paranoid about a home address being published? This is nothing new; it's been around for decades in the hard copy known as the White Pages.

A virtual ideological battleground.

It's only funny until the pizza deliveries and SWAT teams show up.
You'll have to excuse me — I'm off to put a shortwave radio in a Faraday cage before the 4th.

So gamergate is about whether people have the right to anonymity on the internet, including the right to be anonymously abusive towards others? I'm missing the connection with breaking into an opponent's HQ and stealing their info (Watergate), or what it has to do with games.
SWAT showing up is entirely unacceptable (probably also unacceptable for the raids they perform against non-violent criminals). I can see not wanting an address published for this reason, but SWAT will find out where I live regardless of what is published on the internet. They should have a policy of taking no action unless the identity of the informant can be verified.
I'd take a pizza delivery over the swarm of door to door roofing salesmen.

Who knows why -gate gets appended to anything. It's not so much about the games as in-game chat, like http://discordapp.com/ and probably others.
It's devolved into people being offended on behalf of third parties and doxing to include schools and employers of those who have 'offered' offense to some anonymous volunteer offendee. And spoofing 911 calls to get the action rolling.
Someone needs to drop down the IP stack to the TCP/IP levels and build a robust fully encrypted replacement for HTML with full support for anonymity, authentication and crypto blockchains.. SMTP, Usenet and TCP are all examples of peers of HTML. Why not another?

The Arctic and Antarctic are way above average temperature:
https://robertscribbler.com/2017/11/...ome-locations/
The melting Arctic ice is weakening the jet stream, and this means that it is much more "wobbly" than it used to be - and this means that colder air is "escaping" much farther south than it used to. This also causes high pressure ridges that stay put for a while, and then move slowly.
The more accurate name for all this is global weirdness - the climate is destabilized, and the GLOBAL average is getting warmer. Most of the heat is in the ocean, and most of the earth is covered with water, so most of the "additional" heat is in the ocean.

That is what we in the UK are finding. The weather here has always been variable, but because of the fluctuations in the path of the jet stream it is even more so. We go from Arctic blast one day to balmy and warm the next, with it just as likely to change back the day after that. At the moment it seems like no two days are ever the same.
