phys.org/news: Climate tipping points easier to judge with math breakthrough

Quote:
Tipping points occur when lots of small changes in climate build up to create a sudden, large change. Passing these thresholds leads to accelerated warming and extreme weather events.

For example, in years to come, the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), is at risk of collapsing. The AMOC is an ocean current transport system that brings warm water to the North Atlantic and helps to regulate temperatures in Europe and North America. If it collapses, the regional and global climate may become more erratic.

In July 2023, a study suggested the AMOC could collapse any time between 2025 and 2095. Another recent study, from October 2023, indicates that we are in dangerous proximity of the collapse of the Greenland ice sheet, yet with some hope of avoiding it if proper action is taken.
....more erratic... which is to say away from Anthropogenic Climate Meddling.

Quote:
The research critically investigated 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics winner Klaus Hasselmann's stochastic modeling approach, which revolutionized climate change analysis. The new study refined Hasselmann's techniques using recent tools developed within the mathematical and physical scientific literature.

The scientists noted how their methodology allows to better understand the nearing of the collapse of the AMOC. Observations show the AMOC is weakening.

Maybe the Oregon coast won't be so dang frigid.

I'm not understanding how air currents will increase due to warming, but sea currents will decrease due to warming.

Notice how Vulcanism just fades out? Into Sun spots? Yet Mt St. Helens and Iceland are about to blow?

www.scientificamerican.com/article/earthtalks-volcanoes-or-humans/
Quote:
Furthermore, some scientists believe that spectacular volcanic eruptions, like that of Mt. St. Helens in 1980 and Mt. Pinatubo in 1991, actually lead to short-term global cooling, not warming, as sulfur dioxide (SO2), ash and other particles in the air and stratosphere reflect some solar energy instead of letting it into Earth’s atmosphere. SO2, which converts to sulfuric acid aerosol when it hits the stratosphere, can linger there for as long as seven years and can exercise a cooling effect long after a volcanic eruption has taken place.

Scientists tracking the effects of the major 1991 eruption of the Philippines’ Mt. Pinatubo found that the overall effect of the blast was to cool the surface of the Earth globally by some 0.5 degrees Celsius a year later, even though rising human greenhouse gas emissions and an El Nino event (a warm water current which periodically flows along the coast of Ecuador and Peru in South America) caused some surface warming during the 1991-1993 study period.
There're seven lines but only six tags? And what's Start Here all about?

I think we are due or over due for a "worst time in recorded history to be alive", aka another 536ad event.

2019 was the high point so far as I can tell, building on successively better years. Wonder what year will return to that high point and then begin to exceed it?

Here and I'd thought it was 1956 this whole time.

wattsupwiththat.com/2023/11/07: New Study Finds Most Of Antarctica Has Cooled By Over 1°C Since 1999…W. Antarctica Cooled 1.8°C

Quote:
The post-1999 cooling trend has not just been confined to Antarctica. Sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the Eastern and Central Pacific (south of 25°N) also cooled from 1999-2018 relative to 1979-1997. This cooling encompasses nearly half of the Southern Hemisphere’s SSTs.

The 1999-2018 mean annual surface temperature cooling of the Antarctic continent and nearly half of the Southern Hemisphere’s SSTs do not support the claims that surface warming is driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). After all, if the widespread cooling cannot be explained by the increase in GHG forcing, why would the same concentrations of GHGs explain the areas with warming temperatures?
I've been buying cold weather gear, lastly an air crewmen's insulated overalls.

My only reference is movies like American Graffiti, and I tend to agree. I can't think of anything better than cruising in a Chevy to the burger joint, getting a burger, fries, and shake. Then rolling into a drive in movie. And the women weren't so confused about being women back then. Simpler time.

Plus, I'd be around during the only period in which humanity has set foot on another celestial body, which seems like quite the thing to be alive for.

It's been up and down ever since.

My grandmother, who'd grownup in the Willamina hills, sat in a wheel chair watching Star Trek; and thought it was real.
