In Mark Twain's time, people talked about the weather but nobody did anything about it ...allegedly.

Now we have a politcal machine that speaks for everyone and is literally hell-bent on doing something, but just anything that will make them money.

Changing peoples minds, but not in a good way [Inflation Reduction Act]. Living in mud bubbles with pedal-power monorails ain't happening on their watch.

The real tragedy is all that energy the earth doesn't encounter, and is unutilized by us forever.

We're letting 99.99713% of the energy go, and that's just what we're wasting in this solar system.

Well, you've got to congratulate the effectiveness of all those un-sung lobbyists who worked so diligently since 1958, to guarantee these statistics would exist!

The Kardashev scale: Classifying alien civilizations | Space
4 Dec 2021The Kardashev scale is based on how much energy a civilization uses. (opens in new tab) The Kardashev scale classes a civilization with a Dyson sphere to harvest its sun's light as type II.
At our present stage of awareness the only way we can concieve is to completely surround the Sun.

There has to be a more subtle way.

A star going dark may be evidence of a civilization achieving type II.

It would still be scary to achieve type I. I mean, we would be engineering things like rivers at that point. They wouldn't flow unless we wanted them to, and at a rate we determine. There would be no "nature", but instead the whole earth would be a zoo.

'completely surround'

That's delicious! Couldn't get anymore elegant than that.

Without some specificity, with respect to how efficiently the energy is used, this scale would be quite dubious.
Devices using hydrocarbons to the tune of 3.5-Terawatts, if converted to electricity, could be satisfied with 1.0-TW.
