One side constantly makes dooms day predictions, is always wrong, makes more dooms day predictions and seems to have no doubt they'll come true this time.
Which side do you think is closer to reality?

I think by any legitimate standard these people are crazy. It's not about politics or normal behavior. They're nuts and they're out of touch with reality and the world just doesn't work the way they think it does.

Agreed, but...

I was just contemplating this, and the minority opinion is 99% (or something like that) of the time wrong. The probability that global warming is an existential threat to humanity is exceedingly small, and probably those that focus their attention on it are wasting their time. But, minority opinions are always the ones that prove could have been useful in hindsight. Take shorting the housing bubble, for instance. They were whackos that were absolutely right.

My instinct on this is still that pulling out our hair over global warming is a waste of talent, but I'm willing to be wrong. As with all things, politics poops in every realm of academic inquiry, and somehow we like it that way.

You can't cherry pick your examples, you have to look at the entire aggregate. If that aggregate is trending to shift one way then you either have a basis for a hypothesis or a serious data error. There are Eastern European countries that nod their head up & down to indicate "no". When they nod in America, what does that indicate?

My sosh prof used to say: when you positively know the answer, you don't have enough data

The next super flare will fry the power grid all over the world killing a billion or 2 people before global warming can kill more than a few people per year. Priorities are all wrong.

Global warming is saving people. Death from lack of warmth is a bigger problem to humanity than death from heat. That could change, but I wonder when and under what circumstances.

Like if we stop all polluting, only to find out that it was the only thing saving us from the heat or cold?

Even if one occurs, not even NASA can predict if Earth's orbit will intersect it or not.
If Earth should intercept one, and capitalists haven't allowed for spare transformers, it will probably end deregulation of the power industry.
Greed is bad!

cold mortalities in USA

It's been reported that most cold-related deaths in the USA involve exposure experienced by motorists involved in winter motor vehicle accidents, awaiting 1st-responders.
I believe more Americans die of heat-related death in Mari Copa County, Arizona alone, than all cold-related deaths in the nation combined.
I don't have that material at hand.
