MetroMPG tried velcro and it turned out to hold too well. Read about it here.

Wow. It took me a while to figure out the pictures, but it is very cool, . I would use much shorter bolts to avoid risk of damage to tires, but I think you are just showing proof-of-concept, not the final cut.

I was thinking that a hinge "should" be from the top, but yours is better because you are creating the strongest attachment where the wind would be trying to get under the skirt and rip it off the most.

That makes me ask the next question, how will you make it so that the skirt is attacheable/removeable along the curving line above the hinge? The hinge will be strong, but there needs to be a way to "seal" the rest of the skirt above the hinge. I'm asking because I'm always paranoid that the wind will get under and try to rip your wheel skirt off (I hate wasting hard work).

Like the OP mentioned, my whole concept is to make the skirt easily detacheable for when i need to rotate/replace tires. So i randomly saw these in the cabinet hardware section of home depot

Amerock Friction Catch, Popular Value - BP3471-2G at The Home Depot

Ill screw the left side in the tirewell and the right side on the wheel skirt, so it should make the top half of the wheel skirt have the ability to pop in/out. Then swing the whole assembly away, giving me access to the wheel.

As far as durability goes...only testing will tell.

Then i used a vice grip and a hammer to bang it into my desired shape
