Closeable/lockable wheel skirts?

Hey, has anyone thought about making front and rear wheel skirts on some kind of hinge that you could open and close and lock in place? This just seems like it would be much cleaner than just bolting skirts over the wheels and not being able to rotate your tires (or getting to the tires being a real PITA).

Basjoos made hinged skirts for his front wheels. I'm sure you could do the same for the rears as well.

My rear wheel skirts are hinged as well, but held shut with screws rather than springs.

wheel skirts

I have a 2006 Impala that has a terrible time with snow packing into the wheel wells to the point of rubbing the tires on turning or bumps. I have to go to the coin car wash and hydro blast the ice out as it is. How in the world do you get the snow out with wheel skirts on?

FWIW, here's an illustrated how-to article on modding some Eldorado skirts:

I haven't had trouble with ice or snow on mine.
Also, it takes removal of 6 screws to get the tire off - only have to remove the bottom ones and the wheel maneuvers out. I've only had to do this once when I got a nail in my tire. I should rotate them soon though, thanks for reminding me!

When I saw the title I thought it was about locking wheelskirts with a key, so noone steals the wheels/mooncaps.

Yeah, that was what I was getting at. Also just being able to close and lock them securely, so they don't fly open somehow and get ripped off by the wind.

I was wondering about using velcro around the perimeter, and a screw at each bottom corner.
