Think GM will ever give us the chance to find out?

4.2 L/100 km is impressive! That's the best highway rating for a non-hybrid. Works out to 56 mpg (US). Coincidentally, the previous best highway rating for a non-hybrid was held by the Cruze ECO.

But a note on the Canadian ratings: they're similar to the pre-2008 EPA numbers. Canada will be getting around to updating our testing to make it more "real world" around 2015.

Hmm? well I just dont know what to say about it all except at 28k after tt&L there should be some sorta torture testing data that proves it acts like a Diesel should!
If this thing runs out for 500k miles like a mercedes 300d, or even an old 6.9L non turbo
could. sell people on Lasting faith! dont bring back another modified eco tech and change it every other year making parts exchange a nightmare.
Another great Idea is a country sedan that places gas saving top on the tree, where you are able to have the dealership download super eco shift varient and injection controls that pre hyper mile it already since its an automatic.
Im sure that the computer is 1 step away from best FE to get Best 0-60 figures.
and the trans is set up for seamless shifting.
Both of wich compromise fuel eco.
Ok guess I did have something to say here but only because the PT cruiser was such a major let down for me! I really wanted the SEMA show version with lay flat seats 6 speed stick turbo 4 banger. They made a gas sucking car instead without the PANEL Truck varient at all.

The impressiveness of the mpg rating depends on the average speed, in my opinion, but I expect they could do better with taller gearing. I know the difference between conventional manual and DSG VW's is quite pronounced at highway speed.

(And for the record, I average about 60 mpg at 60 mph on flat ground).

With better gearing, an EGR delete (altough it could eventually demand a higher usage of DEF) and an ECM reflashing to benefit from the absence of the EGR would lead to some better mileage. And sure, a manual transmission is a must

My best full tank, mostly commuting and daily driving type stuff in my gasser Eco Cruze, was 50.93 MPG. I'll call it 51 MPG...

I just did some consumption vs. speed testing the other day. Two way average at 62 MPH was 53.9 MPG. Based on that, I would expect the Cruze TD to get at least 59 MPG in the same test. That's based on getting a multiplier from the Canadian hwy economy numbers and multiplying my result (4.6/4.2*53.9=59).

Yeah, it seems like the 1.4eco is the true fuel economy king, not this 2.0 diesel.
