Success! That's just the kind of feedback we're looking for here at the EcoModder vehicle & consumer clinic!

The difference with mine is that it actually will respond and try just slightly on flat ground
Oh, don't forget my ridiculous final drive ratio + taller than stock tires (for that tranny) = silly gearing. I wouldn't normally ever try to accelerate in 5th myself.

I'm not sure what those rims come from, Will, but if you get a hood, make sure it's from a hatch or CRX. The sedan ones don't work - they're too long.

Re: Alloys; I found them. It took a bit of digging. They're Honda part #H63813 . They have swept spokes specifically for the left or right side of the car. Offered with 88-91 civics. I'll have to weight one when I get the tire off. I know they're lighter than steelies, but I wouldn't mind having the new sought-after "lighter than VX" rims. Probably not gonna happen

Yeah, probably not. Still, a nice thought. LOL.

Those look like they've got some good tires on them, too.

I still haven't read through your whole thread yet- but have you tried 1st gen Insight wheels? They're 8.8 pounds and 14x5.5, which would actually let you run a lighter tire with less sidewall. I've seen low rolling resistance 165/75-14 tires at 14 pounds.

Finally read through the whole thread - whew! Give these a whirl if you can spare the cash:

AeroCatch® - new design of bonnet pin, available in locking or non-locking versions – see how it works.........

Quite a few of the guys modding higher dollar sports cars use these in place of ugly pins that stick up through the hood or the cheapo quarter turn key lock hood pins/locks. They run about $100 a set.

LOL. I bet you could mod some Miata door handles to work perfectly on the hood.. lift it up with a finger!

Aww, sorry I missed you. I was in Colorado (haven for rust free old cars and trucks) for a bit, but now I'm back. PM me if you're coming through again sometime.

Busy with that good old "other stuff", I have been focusing less on this project. It's just not as exciting to get it done when you've got the engine in and you can drive it around

I did put a rug in the car and it is WAY less noisy. I'm considering interior door panels as well because the bits on the door rattle around like crazy. I also got climate control working! This is huge - I tried driving it in the rain recently, and let's just say I won't do that ever again without a blower on the inside of the windshield.

I took it to get inspected, but I forgot that one of my corner indicators fell off. According to NY state law, I must have front indicators for L and R facing forward. According to the inspector, if the car was originally equipped with corner indicators, they must be operating and on the car to pass inspection :-/. Oh well. I'll get it inspected one of these days.

She also leaks oil. Not too bad, but not just a couple drips either. Looks like maybe just a gasket btw the dizzy and the head. hopefully. I've been playing around with the timing lately to get it to a sweet spot for accelerating from a complete stop (it's still a little "chunky" and must be revved a bit more than I'm used to to get moving. Also after bolting the ECU down, the "skipping" has gone away, although there is still a "missing" feeling sometimes, I think exclusively in second gear. It is not nearly as severe as before, and may sort itself out after I manage to solder all of the connections I made (most are currently pinchy-solderless connectors).

As soon as I get it "driving normal", I'll proceed with the mods.
