if you wait to long to do that it'll force restart your computer
Talk about an annoyance

Ok, this is ridiculous! Third day in a row with forced restart due to Windows Update.

I agree, OS updates are SO annoying. I just upgraded my laptop to OpenSuSE 13.1, and now my Opera menus are using a slightly smaller font than on the old system. Wah!

Consider yourself lucky. Our corporate IT folks shove updates at us whenever they choose, even in the middle of the day. Many times I have had no recourse but to shut down all 125 windows to the systems I was troubleshooting, shut down the 57 programs that I had had running, and let the laptop finish updating and reboot.

My daily annoyance is still winter. Nor'easter going on right now just outside my window. Bah.

Control panel, find Windows Update, Change settings, change "Automatically install updates..." in the drop down to "Ask me whether to download and install..". Click Done and Done.

It should then ask you when to download and install via a tray icon, and when to restart after that so you can select the "bugger off" option all day if needed. It will nag but you can wait until you are done.

That is Freedom though...

(apologies, local difficulties with the natives)

Oh, I would, but Corporate domain policy disables this option.

That's worth its own Annoyance post: Corporate anything.

They pay me to develop Windows software, so I use Windows. At least it's 7.
