Doing my first FE measurement this week. ~325 miles on a half a tank. 11.9 gallon tank. The last part of the tank seems to go faster but if i get 550miles per tank thats over my goal of 45mpg! I haven't even done my under body tray, scanguage, or tuneup yet! Will i see 50mpg?

493.4mi, 64.8mpg. This time, I prioritized saving time a little more than saving gas. I set off with the mindset of "60mpg is good enough", and I figured I would pulse-and-lean-burn the whole way.

I felt kind of ... un-green ... doing 80mph down the hills of Indiana, and liberal throttle going up the hills. But if you have to exceed your lean burn cruise speed, pulse and lean burn on the hills is the best way to go.

I pretty much cruised at 67-69mph, the threshold of lean burn, on the flat parts. I could have squeezed out six more mph, but that would have cost me lean burn, which is a really big deal. If only my aerodynamics were a little bit better, I wouldn't have to choose.

I got my first tank over 500 miles this year -- 517.1 miles and just shy of 11 gallons. This is despite doing all local/city type driving! (I'm not working much these days, and what work I do is in my home office.)

My new larger diameter tires, which are also excellent LRR (Nokian H @ 51PSI) are probably largely the reason, but I am doing a little EOC, as well; though it is hard to do this much on local NE roads.

That's most excellent news. Can you tell me how many miles the tires are rated to last?

daily blab:

crazy hot today for my locale.. 90s F.
old sube a ride to the coast for a breeze, somewhere in the 50s mpg.. with a small topside hole in the tank. Applied takin it easy, no two barrel engaged, lugging in the hills (maine coast)...
a rear view look into what used to be a bumpy rear quarter, is all smoothed.
The sound of that little boxer is freakin famous. It is not going to be my hypermiler for much longer, am putting it up for a safe trade, let it sit for someone who cares more than I can. Will post in the photos area when it is complete... The other day was the first I went slow with tiny details.. it has been two years to get there.

castine, nice place. directly south from where I am...

"It seems my let go of an original discipline, may leave me wandering away from this place...yet again a reminder here. Hypermiling has a rare special place, if to have a machine to enjoy simultaneously." This is my own quote.

This old sube could really be my very last one. I do not do the transverse thing...I spotted some rusty pickups on the ride. I guess I know where my nature is headed.

Their rating is not that great -- I'll try to remember to check the sidewall? The new Nokian eNTYRE is supposed to have even lower RR and it is rated for a much longer distance, IIRC. My Mom is getting a set Thursday for her 2005 Prius.

DAMN! I don't know what happened, but my FE dropped off a TON this tank. I'm nearly half way through the tank and last time i was at 325 and now I'm under 200! No CEL, all tire pressure good etc. I'm assuming bad gas... Hopefully the next tank is back to normal since i have a 120+mile a day commute!

I slowed down a little and set a new personal best. I cruised at 60mph max, 55mph min. DWLb. It's a lazy Sunday afternoon, so I took it slow approaching stops and red lights once I got off the throughway.

71°F, gentle crossbreeze. DC/DC converter switched off, but the main battery SOC started and ended at the same point: nearly empty. Now, what can I do to make the car 3% more efficient?

Well, before joining here, I was averaging 26mpg consistently with roughly 280 miles per tank. Since joining, my first tank went up to 30.6mpg with 318 miles. I just filled up again today which ended up at 331.6 miles at 30.8mpg. Not much improvement from the last tank, but it's still on the plus side.
