Ah, the 'every other car length' trick. Good one. Practical.

Today's the day: one month without a fill-up. I've only driven approximately 300 miles so far this month. Judging by my gas gauge, I'm sure I've used no more than 13 gallons, probably a little less. Fill planned for Friday, so I'll know for sure what kind of mpg I'm looking at.

My goal is 30mpg on a 3 tank average, and after today's fill it's 29.94 mpg. So close! Ultra gauge in the mail, so my next goal will be 30 mpg 90 day. It'll be nice to see what's happening more often than every fill.

New tank heading for 85 miles. I'm waiting for the first bar on the segment fuel gauge (like this) :

to go out - last one was around 120 miles, record one for a petrol CityBug is in the 150 range. This is my first "trying" (as in hypermiling-ish) tank but I'm still learning the car.

Man, I hate people. This is why I was sitting in a stopped car on the highway for so long on Tuesday night:

And I was going north.

Got 102 mpg on my 20.45 mile trip to work today. Tied record. Trying VERY hard to duplicate this as often as I can.

Wow, that's amazing!

I too set a new personal best to work, 33.0 mpg which is exactly 50% over EPA for my truck. Hopefully I can keep that up!

I did a trip to and from Portland yesterday (about 550 miles round trip) and I filled up before I left home (after going 213.5 miles) and before I left Portland (283.3 miles). My last 3 tanks I have averaged 55.73 MPG, with this months average being 49.9 MPG over a distance of about 5100 miles (filled up the day before the 1st and have half a tank right now). I keep driving like this I'll break the 47 MPG lifetime mark (currently at 46.88 MPG).

Personal record today on a long highway trip. 28.6mpg. I think 30 was within reach, but we hit a big 40min traffic jam that was bumper to bumper. Plus my poor hill planning led to some unnecessary downshifts. Overall, no major complaints, and I'm happy with the new numbers. Last trip was 27.6 in winter, but no jams as big as today's jam.

Loooooong trip results

I just came home from a 1710 mile long trip.
Often I don't fill for a month or so. I carpool with a coworker as much as possible. On these months my mileage is not great due to my in-town driving.
But, on the trip we attained some good mpg and I was quite pleased with the average. Keep in mind that my wife drives with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. She was behind the wheel around 30% of the time and once I caught her going near 100mph. (this is not unimaginable - I have done many aero-mods to the car so it is able to handle the speed and is quite stable, plus I have 13inch tires with a swift transmission which keeps my rpm down to 2700 @60mph and ??@ 100mph)

Just wanted to share.
S.
