Drove to the Dentist office this morning. 22.5 miles, first 7 was 45 MPH, then I got on the Interstate. Traffic was heavy, and the average speeds were 55-60 with no slowing down. Picked up a nice long distance windbreaker and averaged 81.7 MPG for that leg of the trip. When I got home later today after a couple of stops the average was 75.6 MPG for 56.1 miles.
regards
Mech

Thanks, Luxbg.
My only aeromod is an 8" "shorty" antenna. No noticeable difference in MPG there. That mod was more for aesthetics, anyway.
My primary hypermiling techniques are getting through the gears quickly with a moderately heavy right foot and "driving without brakes". I use downshifting and DFCO instead of braking whenever possible.
I don't coast to red lights - I downshift and DFCO to give the light more time to change so I can spend less time at 0 MPG. It's a kick to have someone pass me to stop at a red light sooner, and then fly by him when the light turns green.
On edit - I have a friend at work who bought a Focus (2.3L/manual) about the same time I bought my Mustang. He's getting about 29 MPG with it. I'd bet $100 I could get 32 MPG with his Focus before he could get 29 MPG with my Mustang.

Absoluetly! I have to grin like a little kid everytime, especially if it is a bigger engined car than mine.

Yarrr, that's the funny thing about LA traffic. I find that there is a "goldilox" level of congestion that allows you to keep moving at a lower average speed. The people behind you don't have an excuse to be upset because the overall flow of traffic is not fast enough. This is all in the far right lane, of course.
That said, if I had found a turtle to follow, I could have lowered my average MPH and done even better.

Hehe, yes, the Goldilocks effect is responsible for my best commutes as well.
I got 63.5mpg on the way to work today, 60.6 on the way home. Potenzas at 35psi, because otherwise, the ride is needlessly jarring. I need to mod until my average commute is 70mpg.

Hi,
My first trip with a deliberate eye on economy was on Thursday - 200 mile round trip from Edinburgh to Newcastle (UK - A68). Road is 2 lanes, some trucks and lots of hills. Kept my speed down to at or under 60 mph which is the limit but my usual speed is above that overtaking where I can. During the journey I still passed a Subaru WRX whilst keeping under 60 - he was scared of speed cameras.
I haven't measured yet but my tank is still 1/2 full and my trip mileage is around 305. Normally I refuel at just around 1/8 of a tank and struggle to get 400 so I think this has had an effect.
It was still fun too.

93 mpg @ 55mph
I was playing with the Segment fuel economy meter, which lets you look at FE for just a portion of the trip. In this case, with a flying start, I got 93.5mpg on a four-mile stretch of expressway by holding lean burn and allowing speed to vary between 50 and 60mph. The whole trip fuel economy was 70.x mpg.
It makes me want to drive out to the country and make an mph vs mpg graph.
