For the record, When I check for vacuum leaks, after I spray it down and I don't find anything. I then squeeze all the vacuum hoses one at a time with a pair of smooth pliers (no teeth) to see if it makes a difference. In your case....Squeezing the hoses still may not have made much of a difference to pick it up quick. but if you were looking at a scanner at the MAP and did that you might pick it up... Congradulations

All warranty work yep, so they cost GM a lot of money for nothing. No wonder they are in trouble financially.... heh

Yeah, I'm glad to have my car back (I hated the rental car I had). What else can you do but laugh at the situation right?

It's a Toyota Matrix/Corolla drivetrain built in Fremont California (UAW Local 2244) :
what we make
Last I read, the Matrix was built in Canada.

My Father called me one day and told me he was told his suzuki needed a new valve job on the engine. He told me he had gone to 3 Garages and they all told him the miss was caused by bad valves. Well he told me his car never worked good after the last oil change. So he was told to do a plug, wires maintenance it would surely fix the engine. Of course it did not so they blamed it on the bad valves.
I said, I would be there in 5 min. When I go there, I asked him to start the car and I opened the hood. I looked around in the dark with a flashlight and grabbed a hose and put my thumb on the end of it. The car smooth right out and he called to me that I had fixed it. I said not yet, I have to go to the store and get a part. I bought a coupler for $1.85 and connected the 2 hoses together.
I was done when he went for an oil change, the mechanic had cut the hose with a knife, and left them appart, I could see the neat cut, and the 2 hose parts were so close together. This same service center is still in operation and working on the same cars over and over again.
I do my own repairs but how many are suffering the services of these scammers.

smoke it , low pressure smoke generator
to show that not all techs do not have a clue ...
when you suspect a vacuum leak on an OBD2 system
this simple test can even be done with the scan gaugeII on most NON european systems . for BMW VW Audi Mercedes , you will need a tool that will give you Enhanced data , something SG2 does NOT do as it is
ONLY GENERIC .
FT values displayed will be FT adaptives on most european systems .
at idle look at the sum of LTFT and STFT it will be high , over 10%
then look at the same values at 2500 rpm
sum of LTFT and STFT will be very close to zero
IF the system has a vacuum leak .
to locate the leak
remove the duct to the air filter , cover the plastic part the duct fits over with a plastic bag , then reassemble the air duct .
connect your low pressure smoke generator to a vacuum line , best to T into the line with appropriate T fittings
run the smoke machine with the oil stick and oil cap off , when smoke exits both ... put them back in place , then ...
run the smoke machine
smoke will exit from the vacuum leak
all competent independent shops and all dealerships have smoke generators.
most have at least one tech that knows how to use them.
===========================
i would have solved this problem in minutes , i have solved similar problems many times , in minutes .
not to gloat , this is very basic stuff ....
