Nice info, I figured you were driving slower than that! I drive ~45mph all the time in my car, bet my graph would say close to 80% at 45, but I have a fairly long trip with only around 8 stops.
Been wanting to get a throw away laptop in my car (like a $50 one off ebay) and set it up as a OBD2 reader (I have the usb adapter and it works with my car ). Then I would like to make a little program to record details with the OBD2 and link it to google maps (GPS + caching of the route) for elevation (hills etc) and have it suggest when to coast to stops based on that day's conditions (self adjusting for wind etc as you drive for the day). Not a super easy program, not sure if I'll ever even start it lol. FYI, for any other coders, the usb adapter is pretty cheap, and there are open source code out there.

You give me hope for my Xterra! It's heavily modified for offroading / expedition trips...but on those trips there's also a lot of highway driving. I know I'll never get crazy mileage with it, but if I can squeeze out a few more MPG's with basic mods than I might as well.
Grill block still scares me though, especially being in New Orleans. I've got some coroplast so I might try making a belly pan. Considering I've already got skid plates, It'd just be filling in the gaps really.

I have been driving in 100*F+ weather with the upper grill blocked. The engine temp didn't go above 198*F, which is normal for my car. Its safe so long as you watch your gauges and test for the appropriate amount of grill block.

For those interested, I've updated by fuel log notes to include notes as to when different mods were made. If you look to see how much a certain mod helped, always keep in mind the temperature changes (avg temp is included in my notes).

Sorry to get off topic, DD, but please checkout other threads on the grille blocks [, xterracanuck]. Making it easy to remove (zip ties?) will help if you ever get nervous. I get to 221* (the highest it ever goes) and my temp gauge is still slightly leaning towards cool. It always drops lower, climbs back up, drops off, so on- maybe the fan turning on. Also note, if you don't block the two grilles (I have two, you may just have one big one), that air going in there has to go out somewhere, which may be though the bottom- keep in mind when building your underbody.

It's been over three months since this thread was posted. Diesel Dave, How's the modding going on your truck?

I haven't really done much modding recently. I've been busy with some other things in life. I've only filled up once since this tank, but I'll fill up again later this week. This tank will probably fall in the 54-55 mpg range. The weather is getting colder, so my numbers are trailing down a little.
