$150

I paid $150. I figured... what's $10. Some of that supports the forum, right?

Hello and welcome!

I'm also very new around here; I have an ambitious and unorthodox project in mind for my car, and a preliminary step along the way was to pick up a scangauge. Having done so, I can tell you it's going to blow your mind what a great product it is...

I already practiced mild hypermiling techniques on a regular basis prior to installing the gauge, so I didn't think I'd see that significant of a jump in fuel economy. Boy was I wrong.

Just by virtue of having that instant feedback (and constant reminder) displayed, I went from ~22mpg city to over 25mpg. That's about a 14% improvement over my previous average, and a solid 40% better than the EPA says I should be able to achieve.

The trip gauges, realtime telemetry and OBDII scanning abilities are really icing on the cake for me, and it makes it a product well worth it's price, even at retail cost.

I'm back...

I've been away for a while. Got myself a Scangauge and it's helped me learn how to drive all over again. I've watched for instantaneous mpg trends based on various driving behaviors, shift points, etc. and have chosen the behaviors that seem to work best for me.

Aside from keeping to the right hand side of the road, pulse and glide has worked out beautifully. As of the past couple of weeks I've started to utilize engine braking to induce fuel cutoff - too early to comment on any improvement from that, but 9999 mpg is better than 199 mpg, isn't it?!

As a result of nothing more than behavioral modification, I've achieved a 10% increase in fuel economy. I was getting around 27-28 mpg and now I'm getting 30-31 (tank averaged). This is all city driving. I don't take this car for many longer highway trips - the only data point I have there is that I achieved around 37mpg and I was speeding along with traffic. Had I backed off, pulsed & glided, I'm sure I could have achieved 40+ easily.

My next "low budget" attempt at increasing fuel economy is the application of a K&N replacement filter. I just put it in yesterday. I'll be interested to see over the next few fillups if that is making any difference. I fill up on average about once every 12 days - so it will be a while before I have any meaningful anecdotes about K&N filters.

So I'm going to search around a bit on the forum and look for some next steps, experiences with air filters, etc.

I think an added airdam could be an interesting next step...

Glad to hear things are working out.

Sorry to say though, that K&N will not do a thing for you. I suggest sticking to our list of 65+ mods that are proven to work.

Yes - I should have searched and read about K&N here before. I'm not finding a lot of support for them. Maybe I won't put in the other one I bought for my G6...

I keep the rpm's pretty low so I don't think I'd notice much with fuel economy. I'd be happy to see a little more power during the times I need it - highway merging, etc. I don't know if I should expect to see anything different in city driving.

In fact, I'm wondering if 24 hours with the K&N were enough. I'd like to see the data over a couple fill ups to see if anything noticeable happens if only for the edumacation.
