Have you ever tried to start a cold engine on the handle?

I had three Humber Sceptres (1725 H120 engine, 1725 standard engine (there's a 20hp difference)), all with a handle. If the engine was warm or hot, a little choke and it'd fire off the crank before it even did a revolution. Cold soaked on 9.0:1 compression not a chance, and this is summer in the UK.

I'd have probably broken something if I'd tried to cold crank that motor in the winter.

That said yours will probably be lower compression.. But still don't rate the chances, and have someone show you how to do it properly, if it kicks back you will be in a world of hurt, nursing a broken thumb.

The Lada 1200 engine has about 8,5:1 compression if I recall

but War wagon will probably drive on for a while

I think a WAI and aero mods could be the next thing to do.

I wonder if I should make a hand throttle.

aww craps, I hit a block of ice on a trip yesterday and the exhaust broke.

But my consumption reduced. Was it THAT clogged?

Either it was quite clogged or the catalyst is too restrictive.

BTW, why do you want a hand throttle? To use it like some sort of makeshift cruise-control? IIRC it's often found in agricultural machinery and some military vehicles.

So, why would you actually want a hand throttle? BTW since it has EFI it probably doesn't have a provision for a choke lever like the old carburettor-fed engines, but you might find a way to work around it. Other possibility would be to do something inspired on those adaptations used by paraplegic drivers. Have you ever seen that French-style hand throttle controlled by a pair of levers assembled behind the steering wheel? Make one with provisions for a lock to set it at a predeterminated position and there you go...

Also got my best winter MPG today, and I had 15kg of excess load+ my friend + I drove on lower-octane.

I could build a simple cruise.

like this, but using really thin wire that snaps if you press down and release the pedal too violently?

guess that would make for the safety system
