Managed to get 37MPG. I wonder if I should buy LRR tires in the spring?

What tyres have you got now ? and how much life is left in them ?

I was considering LRR tyres, last year but decided against them as my current tyres did not have a particularly bad rating ( D or E ), they had a lot of tread, and it would have taken along time to recoup the money back. The best tyres I could find were B rated, another reason for me to wait was in the hope that better tyres would come out in the near future.

When I need to buy new tyres I will certainly buy LRR, but until then it isn't currently worthwhile as I'm looking for overall ownership economy rather than focussing purely on MPG at any cost.

You could try this calculator within excel :

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...44224172,d.bGg

My saving would be 0,3 l / 100 km, or about 70 EUR a year at the cost of 250 EUR.

My tires crapped themselves last autumn. I used 12 year old rethreaded winter tires last summer.

Then one tire got a swollen thread on a trip, I got my hands on a couple tires.

so its a fresh start

FFFFFFFFuuuudge...... the gov is trying to run a new taxation system for road upkeeping, it might add a 300Euro extra in the motoring costs... if this runs through i'll drive 50mph forever, regardless if it's a highway- with a sticker in the rear window

The positive side is that a newer car becomes more of an option if you have cash. And the 30% buy tax goes away on new cars.

I guess i'll buy that Toyota IQ or something similar, if I can get a job....

I think i'll buy the manual

Personally I think that road taxes should be put primarily on fuel, then you pay for distance, how and what you drive.

The taxes aren't necessarily a bad thing as to encourage city dwellers to use public transport, but it punishes the country people, who dont have many alternatives for transport.
