More about the Dale on Jay Leno's Garage. Photos of the plywood, 2 by 4s, and the unconnected steering. Elio sure made it a lot farther than that 3-wheeler!

Yes, they have a factory, a custom motor, and have started building the E series they need to move to the production test run. They are waaaaay ahead of what that vehicle.

I looked at the factory tour video. I estimate they will need to sell 50,000 units at $16,000 USD to make any money. Just a rough guess.

Considering the date, the Dale had no social media and got all their money basically door-to-door I think they may have done better then Elio. Plus they had no overhead, so all profits. Elio is blowing all this money on extra prototypes and factory space while the Dale just had one fake penis and some cocaine on the balance sheet. I bet they both end up making the exact same number of $6800 cars.

All you really need is one, like the Dale, then go raise money. Then spend money on fake penis and cocaine. The Elio may be further along to actually putting cars in customer garages, but may not ever put as much money in it's creator's pocket. What is a more advanced concept depends on your perspective.
My biggest problem with the Elio is I think they are sucking up all the oxygen in the room killing off possible competition by making claims that can't be met and having the claims believed. So maybe we would have 4 other 3 wheel tandem reverse trikes by now, but they did the math and came up with a $14,000 price and 55mpg and figured no way they can get deposits along side a company making $6800 and 84mpg claims.
Maybe I should start a reverse trike company with a $5000 price and 100 mpg using baking soda in glass jars as a hydrogen fuel cell. I would just make one and then blow the money on a really nice fake penis because cocaine is bad for you.

The only thing I agree with you on is the creator makes a wage either way.
I do not believe there would be any competition to the Elio, cause let's face it all their competition was in the process of going bankrupt 2008-2010.
Very little has ever existed in the 3 wheel space. To make a 3 wheeler popular would just take changes in tax title license and gas prices.
Also again Subaru built a standard trike out a very inefficient 60's micro car which was dimensionally bigger than the Elio and managed 100 mpg
With effort any of their claims could be true.
I view Elio similarly to apt era in that they won't crap and get off the pot.
But I think the likelihood they will is greater though.

Here's Paul Elio saying the thing that moved them forward was the Reg A+ stock offering.

Morgan? For bureaucratic oversight 3-wheelers divide into steering wheel vs handlebars.
In the end the Elio is nothing you couldn't make out of a 2nd hand Metro. Now if it had twin electric motors and torque vectoring, it would be more forward-looking.

That Dale was newer, but in 1948 another 3 wheeler (the Davis: also on the Jay Leno show: but it ran and was driven by Jay) was strikingly similar - guy only made a few, messed with different engines and later went to prison. Hopefully Elio will not get busted for anything.
