And the Geo gets 52 highway EPA. Somehow Elio will get 82, get cleaner emissions, be safer, and cost about the same even if you didn't adjust it for inflation. I just wonder if we are further away from the last Metro to roll off the line or the first Elio to roll at this point.

There has been a bit of news trickling out, but not too much. They made another test vehicle.

Hmmm...it seems StartEngine has since seen fit to remove any mention of Elio from the contest, which runs through Dec. 31. When it was announced, the rules stated, "The top referrer will earn $20,000 cash and an Elio Motors basic model vehicle (subject to the vehicles being for sale)."

How's that for a vote of confidence?

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - Elio Motors announced in 2013, they'd be building their 3 wheeled vehicles at the old GM plant in Shreveport. Since then, the company has become known for announcing production delays and Thursday they announced yet another delay.

Maybe. The Metro is a car and was subject to automotive emission requirements at the time it was built. The Elio would be a motorcycle and would be subject to the MUCH more lenient motorcycle emission standards. There are still motorcycles sold in 2016 with carburetors!

Except, again, they are not marketing it as a motorcycle. They could run a high emissions motor but is that their plan and the image they are putting out?

Reading deep shows they are trying to take the VW approach. Improve mpg at the detriment of CO2. I wonder why this will work for Elio but seems to be an epic disaster for VW. Again if they try and take the loophole of a motorcycle the loophole will be closed right away while Elio gets to try and spin why they get to pollute more then a 30 year old Geo and VW does not. Even with a high emission tune, they still won't be hitting 82 on a current EPA fuel economy test.

The Insight is 16 years old now and gets 100mpg at 50mph, and about 70mpg at 65mph (with the A/C off). If the Elio has a similarly efficient engine, is half as wide, has one fewer wheel, and weighs 2/3 as much, I can see it reaching an 82 rating on the highway.
