Though an EV is not my cup of tea, sure the Elio could be turned into one. However, due to the tight space availability for the fitment of battery packs, controllers and all the associated hardware, presumably it would be better to use hub-motors in order to clear space for reasonably-sized battery packs.

Much like the Mother Earth News 3VG trike, the inline seating just has little appeal for passengers. Yes, you would still need a motorcycle license. It is a case of running before learning to walk as far as the manufacturing goes. A 300 - 700 cc motorcycle with a low drag body shell should easily fit the price and mileage benchmarks. An electric version would cost twice as much and weight double. It could be cost effective for commuting where the weather isn't too cold.

You are right about the cost, $11.9K vs $6.9K, but:

How much does the Elio weigh?

Sure it's not so appealing, but I guess there is a right marketing approach to overcome this issue. Why not trying to compare it with the tandem-seating used in some fighter jets?

In countries like Uruguay, a tricycle with a car-like cockpit can be driven with a regular car license.

The trick is a little inside mirror so they can make eye contact. ...without turning their heads.

Yes, but she can't slug you if you say something rude The offset seating as in some aircraft where one seat is a foot behind the other might work.

Ran across info about Elio, Electric Mechannica (sp) and Sondors. Seems like more hurry-up-and-wait for Elio, but the EM and the Sondors are going as planned. Some sort of safety issue with Elio. Segment on U-tube so it must have been right!
